Our Business Area (BA) Markets is looking for the right person to fill the position as

(Senior) Commodity Originator I BESS Flex

for our offices in Hamburg or Amsterdam.

Your role
As our Commodity Originator you are expected to identify, develop, negotiate and implement new business opportunities as well as maintain regular semi-standard deals in order to develop our trading business and mitigate our risks. The main focus of the successful candidate will be to explore, acquire and onboard flexibility into Vattenfall’s portfolio, be it standalone assets or assets linked to system- integration projects. Deal closure includes all internal approvals by relevant committees and contract negotiation. There is also the chance to work on a varied range of structured energy commodity transactions and non-standard contracts covering power, gas, green certificates, CO2, biomass and flexibility products, where Origination acts as the single interface to the market. You will join a diverse team where close cooperation with our trading and asset business units, as well as other important stakeholders is required. We expect that you will bring experience from one or several of the commodity areas we aim to strengthen.

Key responsibilities

  • Identify structured / non-standard trading, asset & customer-based opportunities, mainly in the area of system flexibility and energy storage
  • Identify potential new clients and follow-up on current leads
  • Grow and innovate Vattenfall’s Origination business and drive PnL generation
  • Manage and drive onboarding process for new counterparties until deal closure and follow up to ensure robust implementation
  • Facilitate decision making processes, potentially involving executive group management
  • Internal coordination with Legal, Trade Control, Reg Ops, Market and Credit Risk, Finance

Location
The location of this position is in Amsterdam or Hamburg, and hybrid working is currently the norm.

Business Area (BA) Markets’role in Vattenfall is to maximize the value of the overall portfolio by optimizing and dispatching, hedging, and sourcing for Vattenfall's sales and generation volumes. We serve as Vattenfall’s single access to energy commodity markets and trade electricity, emissions, fuels, freight, and renewable certificates. We employ around 500 professionals who are active across Europe with offices in Sweden, Germany, The Netherlands, and the United Kingdom.

Within Markets BU Customers is offering power purchase agreements to operators of wind or solar parks. We provide market access services to large customers and (regional) energy suppliers and connect demand-side flexibility of industry to stabilize the electricity grid. We furthermore source electricity for Vattenfall’s consumer- and business customers with a strong focus to increase renewable sources of electricity.

Qualifications

Profile
To be smoothly up and running in this role you bring these hard skills and personal characteristics:

  • High degree of commercial focus, strong business acumen and PnL responsibility
  • Ability to structure complex energy transactions, taking ownership and responsibility for deals in order to drive them from idea generation to deal closure
  • Experience in physical and financial energy markets. Familiarity with energy storage systems is preferred
  • Existing network in the energy trading market
  • Strong self-motivation to achieve PnL in a challenging and rapidly evolving environment
  • Fluent in English and German
  • Perseverance & resilience
  • Growth mindset that embraces opportunity and creativity
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • High assertiveness and solution-focused thinking
