Electronics & Avionics (EEE) Procurement Engineer

Here at The Exploration Company, we are developing, producing, and operating Nyx, a modular and reusable space orbital vehicle that can eventually be refuelled in orbit and that can carry cargo—and potentially humans in the longer run.

We are seeking a skilled Electronics & Avionics Procurement Engineer to support the sourcing, qualification, and delivery of high-reliability avionics and electronic components for our flight and ground systems.

This role involves serving as the key technical liaison between engineering, procurement, and suppliers to ensure the timely acquisition of mission-critical components that meet performance, quality, and cost objectives. You will play a vital role in the success of our spacecraft development and launch campaigns through reliable supply of electronic hardware.

This position reports directly to our Procurement Lead.

Key responsibilities:

  • Lead procurement of avionics hardware, COTS electronics, PCBs, harnessing components, connectors, sensors, and other flight-critical electrical parts.
  • Develop procurement strategies for EEE (electronics, electric, electromechanical) components for all TEC in-house PCB builds; bundle demands to ensure cost and schedule-optimized bulk procurement of items.
  • Translate engineering requirements and technical specifications into supplier RFQs, technical evaluations, and procurement documentation.
  • Evaluate suppliers for technical capability, aerospace standards compliance, and ability to meet delivery timelines.
  • Collaborate with electrical engineering, quality, and production teams to manage part lifecycle, obsolescence, and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Maintain strong vendor relationships, identify opportunities for cost savings, lead time reduction, and performance improvements.
  • Assist in resolving technical issues with suppliers, including failure analysis, deviation requests, and root cause investigations.
  • Manage procurement data, component traceability, and compliance documentation per internal and regulatory standards (e.g., ITAR, REACH, RoHS).

Desired qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Supply Chain, or related technical field.
  • At least 3 years of experience in procurement, supply chain, or technical sourcing of electronic and avionics components, preferably in aerospace or defense sectors.
  • Strong understanding of electronic components, PCB manufacturing, avionics systems, and industry standards (e.g., IPC, MIL-STD, ECSS).
  • Experience interpreting electrical schematics, BOMs, and datasheets.
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and vendor management skills.
  • Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems; experience with SAP, Oracle, or similar platforms is a plus.
  • Ability to prioritize in a fast-paced development environment.
  • Knowledge of export controls (ITAR/EAR) and aerospace quality systems (AS9100, ISO9001) is highly desirable.
  • Fluent in English; proficiency in German, Italian, or French (B1 level or higher) is a plus.

Why join us?

At The Exploration Company, you'll enjoy:

  • Agile decision-making processes
  • Open, collaborative environment with transparency about risks and obstacles
  • A dynamic, fun atmosphere as we democratize space exploration

If you're excited to be part of our journey, please submit your CV for immediate consideration. We look forward to connecting with you.
