Financial Accountant

Location: Frankfurt (close to the Airport)

Office based, 5 days a week, Mon-Fri

Industry: Construction and Engineering

Job Summary

The General Ledger Accountant is responsible for the accurate and timely maintenance of financial records, focusing on general ledger activities, account reconciliations, and the preparation of financial statements. This role plays a crucial part in ensuring compliance with accounting standards, policies, and regulatory requirements. The ideal candidate has strong analytical skills, a thorough understanding of accounting principles, and an ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • General Ledger Management

    • Manage and maintain the general ledger accounts, ensuring accurate and timely recording of transactions.
    • Post journal entries, including accruals, adjustments, and reclassifications as required.
    • Perform month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closing activities.
  • Financial Reporting & Analysis

    • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in compliance with GAAP (or IFRS as applicable).
    • Assist with the preparation of management reports, providing analysis and insights into financial performance.
    • Support budgeting and forecasting processes as needed.
  • Account Reconciliation

    • Reconcile general ledger accounts to ensure accuracy and consistency.
    • Identify, investigate, and resolve discrepancies and variances in accounts.
    • Prepare and maintain balance sheet reconciliations and schedules.
  • Audit Support

    • Assist with internal and external audits by providing supporting documentation and explanations for entries and reconciliations.
    • Ensure compliance with internal controls and recommend improvements where needed.
  • Compliance & Process Improvement

    • Ensure compliance with accounting policies, company procedures, and relevant regulatory requirements.
    • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives, identifying opportunities to streamline processes.
    • Develop, document, and maintain accounting policies and procedures.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • CPA, ACCA, or other accounting certification is a plus.
  • 2-5 years of relevant experience in general ledger accounting or related field.
