ZEISS Microoptics, a unit of the strategic business area Photonics & Optics, specializes in the development, optimization, mastering, replication, and integration of optical applications based on micro-optical and holographic optical elements.

Your Role

Precision in high-performance optical products requires finesse and a keen eye. ZEISS Microoptics utilizes holography to realize innovative lighting, projection, and detection systems. With the newly established Aerospace business unit, we are expanding our fields and seeking a motivated and dedicated specialist (m/w/x). In this role, you will design optical systems for compact third-generation Head-Up Displays for cockpits and transparent holographic displays for modern aircraft cabins. Your responsibilities include:

  1. Design and development of micro-optical systems such as Head-up Displays, holographic optical elements, and optical projection systems, including associated testing methods.
  2. Creating optical designs according to specifications, evaluating performance and system tolerances, and assisting in manufacturing challenges.
  3. Supporting project management with technical communication to clients.
  4. Collaborating with software engineers in testing, developing software/tools, and creating new tools and theoretical models to optimize innovative concepts.
  5. Performing optical simulations, including tolerance calculations, stray light simulations, and modeling micro-optical components like diffraction gratings, volume holograms, and diffractive optical elements.
  6. Design and evaluation of optical setups for holographic element exposure.
  7. Developing optical test benches for validating micro-optical systems and components.
  8. Willingness to undertake occasional business trips to domestic and international clients.

Join a growing interdisciplinary team to bring new aerospace products to life and create value for our customers.

Your Profile

  1. Degree in Physics or an engineering discipline with a focus on optics.
  2. Relevant professional experience as an optical system designer in an industrial environment.
  3. Excellent knowledge of wave optics, diffraction theory, holography/interference lithography, and microstructure fabrication.
  4. Expert-level skills in optical design software such as Zemax, FRED, or CODE V, and strong programming skills in Python, Matlab, C#, or C++.
  5. Self-organized, results-oriented work style, with strong team skills.
  6. Excellent communication skills in German and English for stakeholder management.
