The Leibniz Institute for Food Systems Biology at the Technical University of Munich (Leibniz-LSB@TUM), a legal foundation under civil law in Freising, is a research institution of the Leibniz Association that combines methods of biomolecular basic research with analysis methods of bioinformatics and analytical high-performance technologies to investigate the complex interplay between the human organism and food ingredients.

The research group Integrated Food Systems Analysis, a part of Research SectionIII at Leibniz-LSB@TUM, is currently looking for a scientist to start at the earliest possible date as

The position is to be filled on a full-time (100% TV-L E14 with the option of E15) basis for a period of 3+3years.

Your job profile includes

  • integration of multi-omics data sets generated with innovative high-throughput technologies used in Research SectionsI and II (e.g. sensory, metabolome, proteome, and transcriptome data) by using efficient algorithms and machine learning/ artificial intelligence methods in combination with complex network analysis tools to predict and model interactions between food and biological systems
  • further scientific development of this working group to support the Food Systems Biology approach at the Leibniz-LSB@TUM
  • acquisition of third-party funding and scientific management of the research projects conducted within the working group
  • supervision of doctoral candidates and students in conducting independent scientific research
  • establishment of collaborations within the Leibniz-LSB@TUM and with external collaboration partners
  • publishing scientific results in (high-impact) journals with a peer-reviewed process

Requirements

The ideal candidate holds a PhD in bioinformatics/ computational systems biology or a closely related scientific discipline and brings a strong background in bioinformatics, chemoinformatics, machine learning, AI, and data analysis of large biological datasets. Proficiency in programming and experience in mentoring and/or supervising co-workers are highly desirable. A genuine interest in the subject matter (food science and multiomics), solid English language skills, self-motivation, and a readiness to establish a vibrant independent research program and tackle novel scientific challenges are considered essential. The ability to work both independently and within excellent teams as well as strong organizational skills complete the candidate’s profile.
