At Doncasters we have an exciting opportunity for an IT Infrastructure Lead to join our team in Bochum.

Doncasters is a leading international manufacturer of specialist superalloys and high–precision alloy components made for the most demanding conditions with manufacturing facilities in Europe, USA, Mexico, China and India.

At the Bochum site, Doncasters Precision Castings-Bochum GmbH manufactures rotor blades and guide vanes for aircraft engines and stationary gas turbines using the investment casting process with approx. 570 employees. The Bochum production facility casts both polycrystalline and directional or single-crystal directionally solidified components.

Bochum is an accessible site that is easy to reach from anywhere in North Rhine-Westphalia.

The Role

The focus of this role is on delivering high-quality IT operational services that support the organisation’s performance and reliability. Key responsibilities include:

  • Work under the guidance of the IT Operations Manager - Europe to carry out the installation and subsequent management of hardware and software required to support the needs of the organisation.
  • Work with the IT Operations Manager – Europe to plan and execute work to recover outsourced processes and knowledge back within the Doncasters site / European IT operations.
  • Perform data backup processes and ensure all critical on-premise and cloud data is backed up with a regularity according to its recovery requirements (RTO / RPO).
  • Work with the IT Operations Manager to plan and execute regular Disaster Recovery (DR) tests and produce audit proof documented results and recommendations.
  • Manage and maintain hardware and software via upgrades, patching and systems changes.
  • Monitor the health of IT systems providing services to the Bochum site.
  • Make recommendations and suggestions to improve security / performance / efficiencies of IT installations and services.
  • Contract Management and Administration, oversee the lifecycle of IT contracts from inception through to renewal or termination.
  • Manage Cloud Services (including Microsoft 365 administration), hosted environments and necessary integrations with 3rd Party PaaS and SaaS solutions.
  • Collaborate with external vendors in the execution of pre-planned upgrades and system changes, and resolution of issues when required.
  • Assist with the deployment (and possibly development) of the Doncasters ‘Back To Basics’ programme for the Bochum site.
  • Assist in the development, implementation, and enforcement of best practice policies and procedures for the European IT community.
  • Provide guidance, support, troubleshooting, and escalation to stakeholders and clients alike via helpdesk.
  • Work closely with the Information Security team to ensure security systems are kept up to date and as secure as possible.

Qualification and Skills

  • Relevant professional qualification in a related field or significant professional experience is preferred.
  • Evidence of a commitment to continuous professional development.
  • Experience in managing an Active Directory environment is a requirement.
  • A strong understanding of Backup and DR principles will be an essential.
  • A strong working knowledge of Virtual (VMware) Environments.
  • Experience in deployment of servers and storage solutions will be an advantage.
  • Experience with Cloud Environments will be an advantage.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of current cyber security best practice.
  • Strong organizational skills, capable of working independently as well as with the I.T. team and business units.
