This is what drives us. Why not join us and make a difference?

TheComputational Health Center is a dynamic and innovative institution engaged in the development of artificial intelligence (AI) methods for biomedical applications. We are one of the largest and most recognized centers in Germany. The Institute of Computational Biology (ICB) is globally recognized for innovations in data analysis and modelling of biological systems and diseases, anchored at Helmholtz Munich and the Technical University of Munich.

TheTheis Lab has a long-standing reputation for pioneering machine learning and AI methods in molecular biology. We are looking for a student assistant (f/m/x) to help with scaling the analysis of data to billions of cells.

Your tasks

Come work with us on major open-source biological data analysis software! Scanpy and anndata are looking for a HiWi to help with scaling the analysis of data to billions of cells. This goal means we'll need to not only accelerate the software, but our development processes as well. If you're interested in high quality software, big data, or scientific python in general, this position could be right for you!

Your profile

  • Experience with python, especially the scientific python ecosystem (numpy, numba, dask, scipy)
  • Comfort working with standard development practices, i.e. GitHub, linting/formatting, typing
  • Experience with performance optimization, especially around CPU utilization/memory management
  • Ability to work independently to implement a solution, but also to collaborate to find a good solution in the first place
  • Knowledge of basic machine learning (ML) (PCA, regression, neighborhood graphs)

Remuneration and social security benefits are based on the Collective Bargaining Association of German States (TdL). This position has a fixed term of 3 months but may be extended under certain circumstances.

We are committed to promoting a culture of diversity and welcome applications from talented people regardless of gender, cultural background, nationality, ethnicity, sexual identity, physical abilities, religion or age.
