The Max Planck Institute of Molecular Plant Physiology in Potsdam (www.mpimp-golm.mpg.de) is a leading research institution that aims to elucidate the function and evolution of molecular processes that control the development and physiology of plants, their interactions with the environment and with microorganisms. More than 300 scientists from all over the world pursue their passion for plant science at the institute.
Your tasks:
- Establishment and management of a Service Unit dedicated to mass spectrometry-based proteomics that provides cutting-edge proteomic analyses including quantitative proteomics and identification of post-translational modifications for research groups at the institute
- Operation and maintenance of the analytical infrastructure of the unit
- Development of methods and assays according to the evolving demands of the research at the MPI-MP
- User training and support with sample preparation, data analysis and interpretation
- Close collaboration with the research groups of the institute
- Possibility to acquire third-party funding to pursue your own research projects
Your profile:
- PhD in Biology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology or a related field
- Extensive experience in (bio)chemical analytics with a focus on proteomics
- Leadership and team management skills
- Experience with and interest in plant science
- Experience with protein purification and extraction of proteins from plant samples
- Excellent communication skills and enthusiasm for co-operative work
- Fluency in English, both written and spoken
- Experience in extracting and analysing protein from challenging plant tissue or of individual protein fractions such as membrane proteins or subcellular/organellar preparations is a plus
The initial contract duration will be two years with the possibility of a permanent position following a positive evaluation.
