The Engineering Manager oversees project execution for the European CECO Industrial Air Solutions (IAS) team, specializing in air pollution control systems, packages, and aftermarket services. This role provides leadership to ensure the delivery of high-quality products and services on time, within budget, and in compliance with customer requirements and applicable standards.
The Engineering Manager leads engineering teams in Germany and coordinates with our teams across multiple countries, including the Netherlands, Germany, and India, while coordinating inter-brand engineering efforts to optimize productivity, reliability, and efficiency. They are responsible for supporting sales, project management, strategic procurement, quality control, and aftermarket service execution.
This role fosters a culture of quality, innovation, and comprehensive solutions by collaborating with internal and external stakeholders, including customers and suppliers, to enhance processes, reduce time-to-market, utilize smart cost-saving solutions, and exceed customer expectations. The Engineering Manager owns the entire engineering process, including oversight of costs, timing, and technology for all projects, while ensuring strict adherence to technical specifications, customer requirements, and industry standards.
Acting as a consultant and sparring partner for complex technical challenges, the Engineering Manager leads engineering communications and spearheads the continuous improvement and development of products and technologies.
Your Responsibilities Will Be
- Provide leadership to engineers, designers, and drafters, supervising, coaching, and mentoring to achieve departmental goals.
- Foster a culture of quality, accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement within the engineering team.
- Recruit, develop, and manage team members, including performance management and HR-related tasks.
- Analyze project specifications and performance requirements to determine appropriate equipment designs.
- Provide analytical calculations to ensure that equipment meets governing codes and regulations.
- Evaluate and approve structural designs, product layouts, and system schematics.
- Direct or perform the preparation of product layouts, detailed drawings, and technical datasheets (regular and ISF formats).
- Review and approve general arrangement and detail drawings to ensure accuracy and compliance with engineering standards.
- Provide engineering and technical support to the Project Management team for Original Equipment projects.
- Provide technical information concerning manufacturing techniques, materials, properties, and process advantages/limitations.
- Confer with other personnel to resolve problems and develop suitable product designs.
- Offer technical support to the aftermarket team as needed.
- Evaluate field installations and recommend design modifications to address and eliminate malfunctions.
- Drive project execution, ensuring the development of drawings, specifications, bills of materials, and manuals within time, budget, and quality standards.
- Lead communication on engineering-related issues with internal and external stakeholders, including customers and suppliers.
- Help coordinate fabrication through in-house capabilities and external fabricators to ensure timely delivery of projects.
- Oversee drafting activities, reviewing and correcting design drawings produced in-house and by outsourced resources.
- Support the sales team by providing technical and budgetary input during the bidding phase.
- Develop scopes of work and cost estimates in coordination with the sales team to ensure feasibility and alignment with customer requirements.
- Lead product development initiatives and manage the pipeline of development projects from concept to execution.
- Analyze complex technical problems and develop creative, well-founded solutions.
- Recommend and implement design and process improvements to enhance productivity, reliability, and efficiency.
- Act as a key liaison between engineering and other business disciplines to ensure seamless collaboration and optimal results.
- Work with procurement and quality control teams to ensure compliance with quality, service, and cost objectives.
- Promote compliance with local and government regulations and represent the company in trade associations and community initiatives.
- Establish and track key performance indicators (KPIs), providing timely insights to executive management.
- Manage and track project budgets, trigger monthly invoicing, and issue status reports.
- Represent the business unit in industry and trade associations, and the broader community.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support company objectives.
Required Qualifications
- A bachelor’s or master’s degree in engineering and 8 or more years of management experience in engineer to order environment in international (and multi-cultural) setting.
- Demonstrable experience with excellent decision-making and leadership capabilities.
- Well-developed commercial sense, comfortable with and solid experience in working with external parties including customers and suppliers.
- Capable of developing, managing and coaching direct reports.
- A team player with a bias for action and driving projects to completion.
- Proven track record of managing multiple complex individual and team assignments autonomously and executing on time.
- Process and goal oriented. Can develop, implement and drive goals and new processes.
- Shows initiative to drive results and solve problems (dealing with technical discrepancies or exceptional situations) including ability to influence others.
- Proficient in the use of AutoCAD 3D or Solid Edge or Hicad. and skilled in working with Microsoft Office;
- Experience in European package supplies to meet European Norms and Standards (PED, Machine Directive and CE marking etc.).
- Strong background in engineering of process equipment.
- Ability to read and understand technical drawings.
- Knowledge of material types and their properties, standards and technical/functional/purchasing specifications and construction sites.
- Knowledge of the company’s working guidelines and procedures as stated in the QA manual.
