UL Solutions is seeking a Principal Engineer with expertise in high voltage systems such as circuit‑breaker, switchgear, substation and associated equipment. The selected candidate will act as a Global Subject Matter Expert within our principal engineering team, bringing at least 10 years of experience in electrical power distribution systems and familiarity with standards such as UL 2748, IEEE C12, C37, C57 series, IEC 62271 series, and related regulations. The role requires a strong client‑facing mindset, technical leadership and the ability to influence stakeholders.

This role may be located in: United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Germany, Spain, Italy, India. (Hybrid – 3 days per week in any ULS office.)

Responsibilities

• Serve as Global SME for high voltage systems such as circuit‑breaker, switchgear, substation and associated equipment.
• Act as representative on standards committees.
• Publish articles related to technical expertise.
• Study and understand test standards, testing technology and regulations relevant to the scope of responsibility.
• Take on role as SME for standards, industry and/or test capability.
• Represent UL at industry functions such as seminars, trade shows, or standards committees.
• Manage and develop new standard programs and capabilities regionally or globally.
• Have detailed understanding of test techniques, procedures and equipment.
• Perform complex test procedures when necessary.
• Provide training to staff when necessary.Follow up on client contacts and communicate technical issues, test‑standard explanations, certification requirements and UL procedures.
• Act to address client concerns and resolve issues for a region or global office.
• Drive consistency and enhanced quality in area of expertise.
• Operate and maintain test equipment appropriately to measure and test customer samples within the region or organization.
• Integrate continuous‑improvement concepts and techniques into all aspects of the job for the region or organization.
• Manage and review related internal documents for accuracy.
• Develop special test methods and test equipment for new standards, test requirements or improved efficiency when needed.
• Support the business externally through travel to client meetings, industry events and other meetings.
• Read and follow the Underwriters Laboratories Code of Conduct and all physical and digital security practices.
• Perform other duties as directed.

Qualifications

• University degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Industrial Technology, Manufacturing Technology or Physics from an accredited program plus generally twelve years of directly related work experience or equivalent education and experience.
• 10+ years of experience with high‑voltage systems.
• Familiarity with UL 2748, IEEE C12, C37, C57 series, IEC 62271 series.
• Ability to travel up to 20%.
• Strong communication skills and ability to interact with internal and external teams.
