About Group Functions
Group functions in DNV are experts on finance and accounting, human resources, communication and sustainability, legal, tax and compliance – providing company-wide support, governance and strategic projects. Group also includes our strategic Research and Development unit, which provides science-based insights and foresight to tackle transformations and challenges across the industries we serve.

The Role

Legal Counsel in Group Compliance

Imagine a globally influential role providing expert legal advice across the world. This position offers a gateway to engaging with diverse business areas, influencing international compliance standards, and contributing to a company renowned for safeguarding life, property, and the environment. The Group Compliance purpose is to maintain and develop DNV’s Group-wide compliance management system with focus areas on anti-corruption, anti-trust, export control & sanctions, personal data protection, and supply chain law. We provide advisory and legal services and aim to add value to and improve DNV’s operations while promoting integrity and ethical business conduct across the organization.

Group Compliance operates globally with four members in Norway (Høvik/Oslo) and two in Germany (Hamburg). We meet regularly to ensure close collaboration. The Group Compliance Officer, based in Norway, reports directly to the Board of Directors (Audit Committee) and the Group CEO on program developments and compliance incidents.

We are now searching for a Legal Counsel to join our team in Oslo or Hamburg. We seek a curious, self-driven candidate with experience in compliance topics—preferably export control and sanctions—and project management skills.

Area Of Responsibility For The Position

  • Legal advice under the scope of Group Compliance with emphasis on export control law and sanctions
  • Handle compliance cases related to all topics in Group Compliance in alignment with other internal units; coordinate investigations
  • Drive awareness through communication measures including global training initiatives, organize classroom trainings, participate in global compliance networks, and facilitate interaction with business areas
  • Participate in developing Group-wide instructions and guidelines
  • Collaborate with other internal units to develop and implement elements of the sustainability strategy; advise on sustainability reporting and disclosure obligations

About You

To thrive and succeed in the role, the following qualifications are expected:

  • Master of Law degree (Master i rettsvitenskap) or equivalent with solid academic credentials
  • 3–8 years of relevant work experience, preferably in compliance and/or export control law
  • Professional fluency in English and at least one additional language
  • Ability to build relationships and trust
  • Positive and proactive attitude toward problem-solving
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in teams
  • Result-oriented with the ability to inspire people
  • Willingness to travel
