Overview
At SWARM Biotactics, we’re creating biorobots — living, intelligent systems based on insects. Each insect carries a custom-designed backpack that enables wireless control, sensing, and secure communication.
Biorobot swarms combine the agility of biology with AI, sensors, and swarm coordination — unlocking capabilities where conventional machines fail.
We are the only company in the world doing this — and we’re pushing the edge of what’s possible in every domain: from biology to embedded hardware to swarm intelligence.
Robust control is a foundational capability across our systems.
We are looking for a senior engineer with substantial professional experience who can take ownership of control system design and implementation for biorobotic platforms.
🚀 Join us to work on technically demanding control problems where real-world behaviour matters more than ideal models.
Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and tune open- and closed-loop control systems
- Develop control strategies for nonlinear, noisy, and time-varying systems
- Model system dynamics and validate assumptions experimentally
- Design and analyze experiments to characterize system response
- Iterate on control performance based on real-world measurements
- Collaborate closely with motion estimation, hardware, and system teams
- Excellent Master’s degree in Control Engineering, Robotics, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related field
- Several years of full-time, professional experience in control systems for robotic (student roles, internships, or purely academic projects are not sufficient)
- Strong background in classical and modern control methods
- Practical experience with feedback control (e.g. PID, state-space, LQR or related approaches)
- Solid understanding of system dynamics, stability, and robustness
- Experience designing and tuning controllers on FPGA and micro controller
- Ability to measure, analyse and interpret system behaviour from experimental data
- Experience with dynamically unstable platforms
- Exposure to system identification or model validation
- Experience working with constrained or unconventional systems
- Embedded or hardware-adjacent development experience
- Familiarity with simulation-to-real workflows
- We’re well-funded and expanding fast in a space no one else is in.
- You’ll join a world-class team working on the frontier of science and engineering.
- Your work will directly shape the foundation of biorobotic systems that redefine the interface between life and technology.
