The Department of Chemistry invites applications for a Tenure Track Professorship (W1 Tenure Track to W2) in Physical Chemistry. The successful applicant is expected to strengthen the research priorities of the Department by establishing an independent research group and to actively participate in research alliances and existing collaborative initiatives, particularly in the area of experimental surface and interface chemistry and on-surface synthesis. Close alignment with the university’s research profile area “Materials, Interfaces, Semiconductors” is essential, and participation in planned collaborative research projects is expected.
Responsibilities
- Establish an internationally visible and competitive junior research group focused on molecular processes at surfaces.
- Conduct cutting‑edge experimental research in surface and interface chemistry and on‑surface synthesis.
- Secure and manage third‑party funding, including DFG‑funded research consortia, initiatives and priority programmes.
- Cover the full scope of Physical Chemistry in the faculty’s Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes, including experimental competencies and digital media integration.
- Supervise theses, doctoral researchers and contribute to innovative teaching concepts.
- Participate in academic self‑administration and institutional development.
Qualifications
- Completed university degree and an excellent doctorate in chemistry, physics or a closely related field.
- Independent scientific profile in Physical Chemistry with a focus on surface and interface science.
- Demonstrated outstanding scientific achievements and potential for a high‑impact international research programme.
- Experience with modern atomic‑scale microscopy, spectroscopy and model catalysis or related areas.
- Ability to teach in German and English.
- Demonstrated aptitude for academic teaching.
- Experience in acquisition of third‑party funding is a plus.
