Overview
Geospatial Information Services (GIS) Database/Server Administrator, Journeyman
Location: Wiesbaden, Germany (G26); travel to OCONUS up to 25%. This position supports a Department of Defense organization, USAREUR-AF and their Mission Partners, within Europe.
Responsibilities
- Manages, operates, and maintains Database Management Systems (DBMS) and servers (e.g., SQL) in multiple environments
- Applies practical knowledge of database administration, database systems, and servers to manage the Geospatial and ArcGIS server for the Theater Geospatial Database (TGD) virtual machines on USAREUR-AF networks and MPE on US-BICES and Mission Partner Networks (MPNs)
- Loads geospatial data (e.g., raster maps, imagery, elevation, vector, metadata) into SQL databases for management and dissemination using Esri ArcGIS software
- Ensures validated data sources are available for exploitation and analysis and maintains a GIS-enabled log to track available data
- Configures and maintains the software environment to optimize web-based visualization and applications
- Provides functional experience with the ArcGIS software environment and maintains automation proficiency through software and scripting
- Administers and manages the ArcGIS server and portal capabilities, including hardware, software installation, updating, patching, configuring, coding, scripting, maintaining, managing, and ensuring confidentiality, integrity, and availability
- Maintains and upgrades virtualization hardware and software (e.g., Windows OS, Linux OS, VMware, OpenShift)
- Ensures uninterrupted 24x7 availability and responsive performance
- Supports establishing collaboration links with and incorporating capabilities from other DoD and Army ArcGIS portals
- Performs PKI authentication
- Supports database migrations, upgrades, and the implementation of best practices
- Possesses and applies expertise on multiple complex work assignments and develops methodologies and solutions to problems
Qualifications
Required:
- Experience 4-7 years with a BA/BS in related field preferred or equivalent experience
- Secret clearance with the ability to retain
- Certification – 8140 - A+ or CND or Network+
- Demonstrates mastery of GIS database administration and server management, preferably on ArcGIS environments
- Comprehensive knowledge of geospatial data structures, spatial analysis techniques, and database optimization strategies
- Expertise in configuring and maintaining complex GIS server infrastructures, ensuring high availability and performance
- Implements robust backup and disaster recovery solutions for critical geospatial data and systems
- Develops and enforces data standards, quality control procedures, and security protocols for GIS databases
- Collaborates with cross-functional teams to integrate GIS solutions into broader IT ecosystems
- Stays current with emerging GIS technologies, database management trends, and industry best practices
- Desirable background in computer science, geography, or related fields, with professional certifications in database administration and GIS technologies
- Demonstrates proficiency in developing and implementing secure, scalable network solutions for classified and unclassified networks and environments, ensuring 24x7 availability of critical systems

Pay and Benefits
The proposed salary range for this position is $82,700 - 173,900 USD. The pay range may be influenced by factors including location, contract terms, prior experience, skills, education, and certifications.
