Head of AG Server and Basic Systems (m/f/d) in the IT Services division

The Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus-Senftenberg (BTU) is a young, up-and-coming university and the only technical university in the state of Brandenburg. With more than 1,500 employees, BTU is one of the largest employers in Lusatia and is particularly impressive in terms of its work-life balance.

The Information, Communication and Media Center (IKMZ) is looking to fill the following position in the IT Services department in the Server and Basic Systems working group in Cottbus as soon as possible:

The IKMZ provides information, communication and media services as a central facility for the BTU. The IT Services department provides the necessary IT resources and services.

These are your tasks:

  1. Strategic and operational management of the Server and Base Systems working group.
  2. Personnel management: You manage the working group (currently ten employees) and plan the deployment of staff and the processes for the IT services to be provided.
  3. Service design and service transition: You plan and design new services, further develop existing services and are responsible for the transition to regular operations.
  4. Project management: You manage important IT projects in the platform and storage area.
  5. IT operations: You support the operation of existing platforms and services.
  6. Procurement and budgeting: You provide technical support for the procurement of hardware and services and manage the corresponding budget.

What you need to bring:

  • Completed university degree (Master's degree/ university diploma) in computer science or a business or natural science subject related to the fields of computer science or a comparable subject area or equivalent skills and experience.
  • Organizational and team skills as well as assertiveness.
  • In-depth knowledge of architectures of modern IT platforms and specific technologies (storage, virtualization, container orchestration, automated configuration management).
  • Very good (C1) knowledge of German and good (B2) knowledge of written and spoken English.
  • Ideally knowledge of hybrid structures consisting of on-premises and cloud services.
  • Ideally already experience as a manager (team leader, project manager, etc.).
