As a Standardization Specialist/Engineer in our Coherent Optics team, you will play a crucial role in shaping optical networking standards within the OIF and ITU-T. Collaborating closely with a diverse range of experts across Nokia, you will draft specifications, manage technical documents, and represent Nokia in industry forums. Your work will influence our strategic direction in optics, ensuring we align with both internal goals and industry needs. The work environment is dynamic and collaborative, emphasizing both independent and team contributions while leveraging cutting-edge technology. We encourage a proactive approach to identifying opportunities and mitigating risks in standards development, all within a global context that may involve occasional international travel. Responsibilities

  • Develop and draft technical specifications for advanced optical pluggable transceivers in alignment with OIF and ITU-T standards.
  • Manage and edit documentation workflows, ensuring clarity and compliance with industry standards.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including R&D and product management, to achieve consensus on technical positions.
  • Represent Nokia in key industry forums, presenting contributions and facilitating discussions on optical standards.
  • Track and assess developments in optical networking standards, identifying opportunities and potential risks for Nokia.
  • Engage with internal and external stakeholders to promote understanding and alignment on optical standards initiatives.
  • Coordinate participation in virtual and in-person standards meetings, documenting outcomes and action items.
  • Travel internationally as needed to foster relationships and represent Nokia’s interests in global standards discussions.

Key Skills And Experience

  • Master’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, Computer Science, or a related field
  • 3+ years of experience in optical networking or telecommunications
  • Familiarity with OIF, ITU-T, IEEE, or similar standards organizations
  • Excellent technical writing and editing skills with experience in collaborative document tools (e.g., Word, LaTeX, Git)

Nice to have

  • Experience serving as an editor or rapporteur in a standards body
  • Knowledge of advanced pluggable transceivers like 400ZR(+), 800ZR(+), or 1600ZR(+)
  • Understanding of intellectual property considerations in standards work
  • Strong organizational and communication skills in a global cross-functional environment
