Head of Department (m/f/d) - Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) – Rail and Infrastructure (Germany). Hels on to apply for this role at Ramboll in Germany. The position is based in multiple German cities including Hamburg, Frankfurt am Main, Berlin, Essen, Kassel, München.
Your new role
As our new Head of Department - EIA (m/f/d) you will be part of the leadership team of Environment & Health (E&H) in Germany and also part of a global network of EIA practitioners within our E&H division responsible for growing the existing team in Germany. You will support colleagues in all business areas in Germany to grow our EIA pipeline and grow a talented team of 30 people. Our existing EIA team in Germany covers local infrastructure, rail and onshore wind projects and international assignments related to project finance. We are rolling out sector approaches for Rail and Energy to align and streamline our services for clients, and you can be part of its success.
Your key responsibilities
- Strategic planning and growth: Implement the strategic direction of our EIA team across Germany for forthcoming market growth; support expansion into wider local and global sectors.
- Team leadership and growth: Grow, manage and lead the EIA team in readiness for the pipeline; upskill staff with transferable skills for different sectors; network and collaborate across business areas, service lines and countries.
- Delivering outstanding client-facing solutions: Act as Project Director or Strategic Advisor for a portfolio of EIA projects, providing direction to the EIA team, accountability for deliverables, and strategic advice to clients and stakeholders.
- Client account development: Build the pipeline of EIA work, manage key client accounts, lead EIA bidding activity, and strengthen connections across Ramboll to access opportunities.
- External facing/industry profile: Promote the Ramboll brand in the German market through conferences, technical articles, and other communications.
About You
- Extensive experience in delivering EIAs for infrastructure/transport projects with familiarity of relevant German regulations; project leadership across the lifecycle is desirable.
- Experience in commercial and business management including bids, reporting, resourcing and recruitment.
- Well-networked in the EIA industry with a track record of winning work across sectors.
- A degree (or equivalent) in a relevant environmental discipline with a strong emphasis on EIA; postgraduate qualification in environmental science/planning is a plus.
- Fluent in German and very good English skills.
- Willingness to travel, including possible international travel.
Personal qualities
- Technical leader in EIA with experience providing technical direction at project level; due diligence experience is useful.
- Accomplished staff manager, especially leading multi-disciplinary teams as project manager.
- Excellent communicator with ability to build relationships with stakeholders, clients, suppliers and industry.
