Overview

Linux System Administrator (f/m/d) at Peopleware in Düsseldorf. You will play a key role in setting up, migrating and operating our new infrastructure, working closely with development and product teams to create a highly available, scalable and secure platform for our SaaS solutions.

What you'll do:

  • Infrastructure Setup & Migration: You drive the conception and setup of our new bare metal platform—from hardware selection to a resilient network architecture—and accompany the migration from AWS.
  • Linux system & bare metal expertise: Contribute Linux expertise to optimize the server landscape, including provisioning (e.g., via PXE), OS hardening and hardware management.
  • Cluster Management: Install, configure, administer, scale and maintain clusters on our infrastructure in collaboration with your team.
  • Automation: Develop and maintain robust automation solutions for provisioning and deployment (e.g., Terraform and Ansible).
  • Operations & Optimization: Ensure stable, high-performance platform operation, including analysis, maintenance, troubleshooting, and performance & cost optimization.
  • Security: Implement and monitor security measures at infrastructure and cluster levels (e.g., network policies, secrets management, system hardening).
  • Internal Collaboration: Work closely with development teams as a technical interface, supporting them in optimizing applications for operation on our platform, defining requirements and ensuring smooth integration.

What you bring to the role:

  • Knowledge of Linux system administration and experience with bare metal servers (provisioning via PXE, IPMI, hardware management, BIOS/UEFI configuration) as well as common virtualization technologies (e.g., Proxmox).
  • Strong understanding of network concepts (TCP/IP, routing, switching, VLANs, firewalls, load balancing, DNS) in a data center environment.
  • Proven experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and configuration management tools (e.g., Ansible, Terraform).
  • Practical experience with distributed storage systems (e.g., Ceph).
  • Practical experience with logging and monitoring tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana).
  • Advantageous: Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Jenkins, ArgoCD), Kubernetes and databases (e.g., PostgreSQL).

What we offer:

  • Benefits: Hybrid working model (2 WFH days weekly), 30 days holiday, job bike, public transport ticket or free parking, company pension scheme, corporate benefits program, high-end IT equipment (including MacBook).
  • Feel-good atmosphere: State-of-the-art office in Düsseldorf’s Medienhafen, free full catering (breakfast, lunch, snacks, drinks), team and company events.
  • Flexibility: Flexible working hours (part-time/full-time) or sabbatical to accommodate life changes, when possible.
  • Creative freedom: Opportunity to contribute ideas with substantial freedom for personal development.
  • Individual development: Emphasis on personal growth and opportunities to develop further beyond a job.
  • Further training: Workshops, conferences, in-house meet-ups and events, and learning from mistakes.
  • Onboarding: Comprehensive training from direct colleagues with ongoing support.
  • ... and lots more.
