Principal Scientist - Biology

You will lead our scientific activities on our application roadmaps stain-free and section-free histology for cancer diagnosis enabled by stimulated Raman microscopy and label-free phenotyping of relevant cell systems in pharmaceutical research. In this framework, you will contribute to our activities in replacing classical stains, e.g., H&E with our label-free Raman-based imaging technology. Primarily you will focus together with our image and AI specialists on identifying spatial cell and tissue phenotypes as a new class of biomarker. You will work on linking these spatial phenotypes to disease state, progression, and therapy response. Your work will be in close collaboration with our partners, e.g., University Hospital Münster or Bayer AG.

Your responsibilities:

• Organization and management of our biomedical laboratory
• Design of scientific experiments and assays for the development and validation of medical applications with our imaging technology
• Operation of our custom confocal microscopes
• Experiments on fresh frozen tissue sections and in-vitro cell cultures
• Interpretation of label-free image data and comparison with staining and analytic results
• Presentation of study results at international meetings and conferences
• Planning of preclinical and eventually clinical studies
• Initiation of new scientific collaborations
• Advice cross-functional teams (R&D and management) on scientific and clinical trends

Minimum Requirements:

• MSc or PhD in biology or related fields
• Knowledge of cancer biology
• Extensive practical experience in cell cultures, tissue handling and bio analytics
• Ideally: experience in preparing fresh frozen tissue sections
• Comfortable working with digital microscopes
• High degree of independence and self-initiative as well as ability to work in a team
• Understanding of project management
• Ability and willingness to work with cross-functional teams (R&D and product management)
