Role - Senior Business Analyst (Maternity Cover)

The Way We Do Business

We build software incrementally and iteratively, delivering value to over four million visitors weekly. Our agile approach blends XP and Kanban, with a focus on continuous delivery and adaptability. Our teams include business analysts, UX, frontend developers, software engineers, quality analysts and platform engineers working together to ensure robust solutions and reliable infrastructure.

About The Role

We are looking for a talented and passionate Business Analyst to support a transition from content delivery to a more harmonised and personalised platform. You will drive researcher engagement and contribute to loyalty by collaborating with cross‑functional teams to understand complex problems, define work and identify opportunities.

You will be part of a cross‑functional agile delivery team, using analysis tools to inform decisions that support business objectives and user needs. You will collaborate with stakeholders to understand problems and define requirements to deliver value.

Responsibilities

  • Work with stakeholders to understand goals & vision and identify business needs
  • Orchestrate collaboration within the team and with external stakeholders
  • Communicate how requirements align with business needs and the overall vision
  • Collaborate with the product manager, sponsors, SMEs and the team during development
  • Identify root causes of pain points and validate opportunities and problems
  • Prioritise competing demands and obtain stakeholder buy‑in
  • Map, analyse and validate information flows within a complex organisation
  • Plan, organise and lead workshops to generate ideas and resolve problems
  • Champion business analysis best practices within the BA community
  • Influence decisions with a focus on customer and business value
  • Monitor, track and communicate progress and issues across the project
  • Capture information in Jira and keep it up to date

What you will be doing

Within 3 Months

  • Strengthen team ceremonies and add value to delivery
  • Understand the team’s context within the broader programme
  • Develop relationships with team members and core stakeholders
  • Familiarise with the technology stack and data landscape
  • Co‑plan, organise and lead group sessions to generate ideas
  • Identify root causes of pain points and validate opportunities
  • Be an active participant in the Business Analyst communities

By 3-6 months

  • Understand team priorities and communicate them to stakeholders
  • Build relationships with key providers and dependent teams
  • Monitor, track and communicate progress, risks and issues
  • Prioritise competing demands and obtain stakeholder buy-in
  • Map, analyse and validate information flows and user journeys
  • Break down complex work into smaller pieces collaboratively
  • Contribute to blameless post‑mortems
  • Set context with the team to ensure solutions provide value

By 6-12 months

  • Onboard new team members
  • Co‑define scope and ensure it aligns with programme and company vision
  • Contribute to system architecture design
  • Understand customer needs and how work affects their experience
  • Give and receive constructive feedback within the team
  • Organise and run sessions with BA peers
  • Define product/service vision and strategy in terms of outcomes
  • Define KPIs to measure performance
  • Develop a data‑driven approach to product development

Day To Day Responsibilities

  • Engage in and/or facilitate ceremonies such as daily stand-ups, planning, prioritisation, workshops and demos
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to scope new work
  • Support problem‑solving to remove blockers and complete work

About You

  • Ability to gain context of the product and user space within the programme
  • Proactive, self‑driven, collaborative and communicative
  • Experience delivering software in an agile environment
  • Facilitation skills to achieve defined goals using various methods
  • Strong communication to articulate concepts from technical and business perspectives
  • Experience managing and resolving stakeholder conflicts
