Switzerland for UNHCR (CH4U) is the UN Refugee Agency’s national partner for Switzerland. We support UNHCR's mission by mobilizing essential resources and raising awareness on behalf of those who are forced to flee.

To allow UNHCR to protect forcibly displaced populations, the Foundation needs the support of the Swiss people. Every Franc donated is spent in a responsible and transparent manner, and donations are tax-exempt.

Switzerland for UNHCR also carries out awareness and advocacy initiatives to draw the general public’s attention to the challenges faced by people forced to flee around the world, and to what UNHCR does to protect them.

The Foundation is currently looking for a passionate and dedicated Copywriter/Editor to join our team at Switzerland for UNHCR. This position plays a pivotal role in raising awareness about refugees in Switzerland and Liechtenstein and supporting fundraising efforts within the Communications and Individual Giving Units of Switzerland for UNHCR.

ROLE

This position reports to the Communications Lead.

We are seeking a dynamic, versatile, and proactive team player, with a strong interest in a non-profit brand and refugee/humanitarian issues.

In this role, you will:

1. Write compelling and persuasive content in German and/or English and manage translations and editing in the other languages for various platforms.
2. Develop messages that effectively communicate our mission, values, and impact to current and target audiences.
3. Create both long-form and short-form content for websites, emails, reports, and print mailings tailored to diverse audiences in Switzerland.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Write and edit SEO-friendly and informative copy for website pages, including news articles and landing pages.
2. Produce engaging, action-oriented newsletters and fundraising content.
3. Develop and refine impactful reports and brochures that resonate with current and target audiences.
4. Conduct thorough research to ensure all content is accurate, relevant, and tailored to audience/donor’s needs.
5. Work collaboratively with other units across the organization to provide support with copywriting and editing tasks.

PROFILE

Experience

1. Proven work experience as a Copywriter/Editor or in a similar role.
2. Experience working for an international non-profit agency or organization is considered an asset.
3. Demonstrated ability to adapt content for diverse platforms and audiences.

Education

Bachelor’s or master’s degree in communications, Marketing, Journalism, or a related field.

Skills and Attributes

1. Ability to use initiative, prioritize, multi-task, and proven ability to meet deadlines.
2. Good analytical skills.
3. Well organized and structured.
4. Capacity to work autonomously as well as a team player.
5. Capacity to interact with internal and external stakeholders.
6. Content types: experience of writing website copy, newsletters, fundraising appeals, impact reports, and brochures.
7. Research skills: ability to conduct research and adapt content for different audiences.
8. Cultural sensitivity: understanding of the Swiss market, local culture, and language preferences.
9. SEO knowledge: familiarity with SEO best practices.
10. Attention to detail: high accuracy and quality in writing, editing, and proofreading.
11. Humanitarian/NGO Experience: proven track record in writing for NGOs or humanitarian organizations.

Fluency in Languages:

1. Native or fluency in German (Swiss German is an asset).
2. Native or fluency in English with excellent writing and editing skills.
3. Knowledge of French is an asset.
