Engineering Operations Technician, Data Center Engineering Operations
The successful candidate will oversee the operation and maintenance of the electrical and mechanical infrastructure for Data Centers (DC) in Amazon Web Services (AWS) Cloud regions. Our technicians operate and maintain AWS DCs’ world‑class mechanical and electrical infrastructure, and in addition to technical operations and maintenance, the candidate will oversee facility operations and ensure the implementation of safety procedures. The role requires a motivated, self‑managed person who demonstrates initiative and proactively seeks solutions to problems while striving for operational excellence. The work follows a process‑oriented approach: a strong willingness to learn new processes and adapt to rapidly changing operational scenarios with conflicting priorities is essential. The successful candidate will be part of the Engineering and Facilities team and will be responsible for maintaining availability for customers, ensuring maintenance and operation of technical infrastructure, and the upkeep and operation of the DC facility.
Key job responsibilities
- SAFETY
- Follow and maintain the highest safety standards and diligently encourage a world‑class safety culture.
- As a facility owner team, ensure remediation of safety risks/issues in conjunction with other teams.
- Own the safety initiatives and projects to foster a strong safety culture.
- ENGINEERING & FACILITY OPERATIONS AND MAINTENANCE
- Operational experience and familiarity with electrical and mechanical equipment, including Uninterruptable Power Supplies (UPS’s), Switchgear, Circuit Breakers, Automatic Transfer Switches (ATS’s), Diesel Generators, Chillers, Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning (HVAC), Exhaust Fans, Variable Frequency Drives (VFD’s), and Transformers.
- o Troubleshoot events within internal Service Level Agreements (SLA’s)
- o Take daily operational readings of all mechanical and electrical equipment through routine rounds/log‑taking (temperatures, voltages, currents, etc.)
- o Supervise contractors or Engineering Operations Technicians to ensure proper operation and maintenance of all facility equipment.
- o Drive continuous improvement efforts on infrastructure through standardization of procedures and policies, while delivering performance against agreed metrics.
- o Provide training and guidance to Engineering Operations Technicians and assist in recruiting efforts.
- Lead the root cause analysis for operational issues, and conduct meetings with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to finalize mitigation strategies.
- Manual handling and lifting of equipment may be required (weight limits in accordance with regulations).
- Ability to work shifts (morning, late and night).
- On‑call rotation reaction to off‑duty emergency calls.

Basic Qualifications
- Completed apprenticeship as an Electrical Technician/Electrician or equivalent recognized training.
- Broad operational knowledge and experience with and familiarity with electrical and mechanical equipment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Data Center engineering or Job‑related experience.
- Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a relevant discipline and proficiency in written and spoken English.
- Familiarity with Building Management System (BMS) and Electrical Power Monitoring System (EPMS) control systems and data collection/trending.
