The Deputy Director of Finance manages the day-to-day operations of the accounting department. Primary responsibilities include financial analysis and reporting, budgeting/forecasting, audit and control, reconciliation of assets and liabilities, working capital, and liquidity management.

CANDIDATE PROFILE

Previous experience in Marriott, familiarity with its administrative procedures and software systems, is required. Pre-opening experience is preferred.

Education and Experience

  • 4-year bachelor's degree in Finance and Accounting or related field; 2-3 years of relevant experience at Marriott.

MAIN WORK ACTIVITIES

Assisting in managing the accounting team

  • Utilize interpersonal and communication skills to lead, influence, and motivate team members; support sound financial and business decision-making; demonstrate honesty and integrity; set an example.
  • Oversee internal, external, and regulatory audit processes.
  • Maintain regular communication with employees to promote awareness of company goals, communicate expectations, and recognize performance.
  • Acknowledge team successes publicly.
  • Establish and maintain open, collaborative relationships within the team.
  • Provide strong leadership by recognizing top performers, fostering teamwork, and encouraging work-life balance.
  • Participate in employee performance appraisals and provide constructive feedback.
  • Ensure disciplinary procedures and documentation are completed per SOPs and LSOPs and support peer reviews.
  • Administer real estate policies fairly and consistently.
  • Solicit employee feedback to improve team dynamics.

Project and Policy Management

  • Generate and deliver accurate, timely reports and presentations.
  • Analyze information and evaluate results to determine optimal solutions.
  • Compile, categorize, verify, and check data for accuracy.
  • Ensure income statements are accurate, costs are properly matched with revenues, and statements are delivered promptly.
  • Reconcile P&L and balance sheet accounts, supporting balances with proper documentation in accordance with SOPs.
  • Ensure compliance with SOPs and LSOPs.
  • Review audit issues and implement necessary corrections.
  • Ensure ownership permits, licenses, and supplier contracts are current and in place.
  • Leverage centralized processes and shared services for efficiency.

Oversee audit processes and ensure compliance with SOPs, producing accurate financial reports to support decision-making. Ensure tax rates for sales/use tax are current and that transactions are documented properly.

Accounting Knowledge and Application

  • Demonstrate understanding of relevant problems, products, systems, and processes.
  • Stay updated with technical developments and apply new knowledge.
  • Use computers and systems effectively for data entry, processing, and reporting.
  • Assess compliance with laws, regulations, and standards using judgment and information analysis.
  • Utilize technology and information systems to generate reports and support managerial decisions.

Providing Financial Guidance

  • Update managers and colleagues on relevant financial information promptly.
  • Participate in review meetings with management.
  • Advise the Director of Finance on operational and financial issues.
  • Communicate financial concepts clearly and persuasively to guide behaviors.
  • Assist other units with accounting, budgeting, control, and resource management policies.
  • Provide information via phone, email, or in person as needed.

Maintaining Financial and Accounting Goals

  • Submit reports on time, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
  • Document profits and losses accurately.
  • Achieve and surpass performance, budget, and team goals.
  • Set specific goals and organize work to meet priorities.
  • Monitor taxes to ensure compliance and proper collection or accrual.
  • Support a strong control environment to safeguard assets, improve operations, and manage risks.
