The Senior Applied Scientist in Natural Language Processing (NLP) within the Customer Engagement Tech, Self-Service and Automation team will work on the research, design, and implementation of solutions to key challenges in developing, evaluating, and deploying systems based on large pretrained language models. These models will be integrated into conversational AI systems that can understand and communicate with customers in a natural and contextually appropriate manner.
This role involves model development in areas such as multi-turn dialogue management, knowledge grounding, and open-ended generation, as well as the assessment of dialogue quality and style of the conversational model.
The position requires working with a cross-functional team, including scientists, engineers, and product managers, to develop scalable and maintainable AI solutions for both structured and unstructured data. The ideal candidate has strong technical skills in Machine Learning (ML), NLP, and Generative AI (GenAI), excellent written documentation skills, and experience with big data technologies. Success in this role requires combining deep business knowledge with hands-on technical skills to solve customer problems and address complex technical challenges.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $150,400/year in our lowest geographic market up to $260,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
