Overview

Role: Satellite Telecommunication System Engineer. Location: Rome, within the SATCOM Business Line Engineering Department.

Responsibilities

  • Technical management of bids, projects and R&D activities.
  • Write and decompose system requirements and define the best method for verification.
  • Develop architectural designs and models.
  • Define and manage interfaces between solution elements.
  • Perform scientific analysis to contribute to R&D activities.
  • Write technical proposals for customers.
  • Create, manage and control design documentation (ICDs, TRSs, SSDD) and associated solution baselines.
  • Troubleshoot the system design and provide suggestions or solutions.
  • Provide L3 support to customers.
  • Identify and define ground segment product and technology needs for future satellite communication services.
  • Provide High Level and Low Level Design documentation.

Qualifications

  • Master degree in STEM disciplines, with preference to telecommunications engineering.
  • At least 2 years of work experience in the SATCOM field (desiderable).
  • Good knowledge of the English language (Level B2 minimum).

Technical skills and IT tools

  • Experience in engineering of complex systems and solutions.
  • Knowledge of ECSS space programme design, development, verification, validation, and integration processes.
  • Understanding of core networking concepts and protocols such as Ethernet, IPv4, IPv6, DHCP, NAT, NTP, IPsec VPN, etc.
  • Understanding of routing protocols such as BGP, OSPF, IS-IS.
  • Knowledge of routing technologies (MPLS, SD-WAN, SATCOM, etc) and WAN architectures.
  • Knowledge of satellite communications systems architecture and technologies.
  • Ability to understand a link budget analysis for systems in GEO orbit (modulation techniques and end-to-end link elements).
  • Knowledge of satellite baseband technology (e.g., Hughes Jupiter, iDirect, Comtech or Newtech) is a plus.

Soft skills

  • Ability to run projects independently.
  • Proactive attitude and team player with strong communication skills; able to work in multidisciplinary teams.
  • Continuous improvement and forward-thinking attitude.

Additional requirements

  • Availability for business trips.
  • Experience with IBM DOORS for requirements management (nice to have).
  • Knowledge of Model Based System Engineering practices and tools (Arcadia Capella for MBSE) (nice to have).
  • Previous experience in R&D activities for Italian and European institutions (ASI, ESA, UE) considered an asset.
