We are looking for senior Insurance candidates with 15+ years experience, an underwriting background, entrepreneurial spark and distribution relationships that have a desire to build a new Managing General Agent (MGA) in Italy. Backed by a well-established international group and built on innovation, underwriting excellence, and a strong entrepreneurial spirit. The company will focus on delivering tailored insurance solutions through a highly specialized underwriting approach, leveraging technology and market expertise. We are looking for a dynamic and visionary Head of MGA to lead their Italian business but with full finance, compliance, operations, technology, legal, HR and marketing support from a well-established MGA specialist investor. This is a unique opportunity to build and shape a high-performing business, drive strategic growth, and position the MGA as a leading player in the Italian insurance market.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the strategic planning and execution of the MGA’s launch and expansion in Italy and broader regions as required (EEA, UK etc.)
  • Develop Business Plan for the specialty lines segment (like professional indemnity, property, accident & health, warranty, or litigation risk management – no consumer or personal lines of business) including financial requirements, mid-term P&L, recruitment plans, and distribution strategy
  • Design underwriting processes and standards, including the definition of guidelines, policy wordings, and all foundational elements required for the operational go-live
  • Build and manage a high-caliber underwriting team
  • Drive profitability and sustainable growth through distribution strategy and relationships
  • Represent the company in the Italian market, fostering strong relationships with insurers, reinsurers, brokers, and other stakeholders
  • Work closely with the Group executive team to ensure alignment with international strategies and objectives

Requirements

  • Proven leadership experience in the insurance industry, ideally within an MGA, insurer, or broker with a strong entrepreneurial component
  • Deep understanding of the Italian (re)insurance market, including regulatory landscape and distribution dynamics
  • Track record in launching or scaling businesses and delivering commercial success
  • Strong relationships with insurers, reinsurers, brokers, and regulatory bodies
  • Excellent knowledge of underwriting practices and portfolio management
  • Strategic thinker with hands-on operational execution capabilities
  • Fluent in Italian and English; other languages are a plus
  • Integrity, agility, and a collaborative leadership style
