Full Stack Engineer – Freelance (Remote, Italy)

Overview

At Shakers, we connect top freelance talent with innovative projects across Europe. For this role, we are looking for a Senior Full Stack Engineer to join a long-term, remote-first project focused on building a next-generation AI-powered development platform.

What You’ll Do

• Design and develop scalable, secure, high-performance web applications.
• Build modern, responsive UIs using React and TypeScript / JavaScript.
• Develop backend services and APIs in Python or Node.js.
• Work with relational (PostgreSQL / MySQL) and document databases (MongoDB).
• Collaborate with AI / ML teams to integrate AI-driven features.
• Optimize applications for speed, scalability, and reliability.
• Contribute to system architecture and technical decisions.
• Apply CI / CD practices and Infrastructure as Code.
• Work in an agile, cross-functional team environment.

What We’re Looking For

• 7+ years of experience in full stack development in product-driven companies.
• Strong proficiency in React, JavaScript / TypeScript.
• Proficiency in at least one backend language (Python or Node.js preferred).
• Experience with PostgreSQL / MySQL and MongoDB.
• Solid understanding of modern software engineering practices (testing, CI / CD, version control).
• Fluent in English and Italian
• Curiosity about Generative AI tools and workflows.

Nice-to-Have

• Experience with developer platforms, SDKs, or AI tooling.
• Familiarity with FastAPI or REST best practices.
• Contributions to open-source projects.
