Summary

This position is located at NAS Sigonella, Aquatics Section, Fitness Branch, Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) Department. The primary purpose of this position is to act as a pool lifeguard and swimming instructor.

Responsibilities

  1. Perform work within the swimming program, including instruction in various swimming skills, styles, and basic diving for different age groups.
  2. Ensure swimmers observe all water safety rules.
  3. Perform rescue work and render emergency first aid until qualified medical personnel arrive.
  4. Complete appropriate accident reports.
  5. Ensure the safety of all swimmers by verifying identities and controlling access to the facility.
  6. Maintain sanitation and cleanliness of the pool and surrounding area.
  7. Complete and submit course paperwork and records promptly after course completion.
  8. Teach classes using appropriate equipment and ensure proper storage.
  9. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Minimum age of 18 years.
  • Current certification as a Red Cross Water Safety Instructor or equivalent, Lifeguard Training, First Aid, and CPR (proof required).
  • Satisfactory background check and physical examination.
  • Flexible work schedule, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, and rotating shifts.
  • Indoor and outdoor work, potential exposure to sunburn and chlorinated water.
  • Maintain vigilance for safety and security around the pool.
  • Male candidates born after December 31, 1959, must provide proof of Selective Service registration.
  • For civilians: possess a No-Fee government passport, Italian mission visa, PCS Orders or command authorization, and Sojourner's permit or application.
  • For military personnel: provide PCS Orders and command authorization for off-duty work.

Qualifications

Six months of general experience demonstrating ability to perform the duties of this position, and either:

  • Six months of specialized experience, OR
  • Two years of college study including at least 12 semester hours related to recreation.

Qualified candidates will be ranked based on knowledge, skills, and abilities such as swimming skills, instructional ability, emergency assistance skills, and group control skills.

Education

Provide proof of education (transcripts, certificates) when using education as a substitute or supplement for experience. Foreign transcripts must be evaluated for U.S. equivalency at the applicant's expense.
