Job Description Summary
Location: MUSC/Leatherman Behavioral Health Pavilion, Florence, SC
Position: Security Officer (PRN)
Responsibilities
- Protect and serve MUSC Health Pee Dee Division patients, staff, and visitors; monitor and protect facilities and assets.
- Monitor and operate access control systems, security camera systems, intercoms, two-way radios, telephones, and alarm systems.
- Patrol facilities and grounds; provide emergency assistance and response.
- Interact with patients, families, visitors, law enforcement, and correctional officers.
- Support MUSC Health staff with security and safety concerns.
- Complete detailed notes based on observations, conduct security investigations and interviews, and write detailed incident reports.
Education
Education Minimum: High School Diploma or equivalent.
Work Experience
- Minimum one (1) year relevant security experience or appropriate preferred education requirements.
- Preferred experience in healthcare security, corporate security, or law enforcement.
Licenses & Certifications
- Minimum valid driver’s license in the State of South Carolina.
- Completion of IAHSS Basic Certification within six (6) months of hire (preferred).
Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
- Maintain a high level of professionalism and provide a high level of customer service.
- Ability to don and wear personal protective equipment (gloves, face shields, goggles, gowns, masks, PPE, and ballistic vest if issued).
- Operate radio equipment for communications and quickly respond to emergent situations.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to type accurate, detailed reports and recall actions during emergencies.
- Knowledge of crime prevention strategies; ability to detect, locate, and report safety problems (smoke, odors, water leaks).
- Knowledge of computer systems, including spreadsheets, word processing, email, alarm systems, access control software, and surveillance cameras.
- Knowledge of verbal and non-verbal de-escalation techniques; able to use trained control techniques and restraints as trained (requires completion of Handle with Care Crisis De-escalation course).
- Ability to complete MUHA Security training requirements as provided by MUSC Health Pee Dee Division.

Vision 20/40 with correction.
Additional Information
Leatherman Behavioral Health Pavilion will serve as a regional behavioral health center with triage, crisis stabilization, telehealth, outpatient, and inpatient services. The center will be located at the Cedar Tower campus on E. Cedar Street in Florence. The project involves rapid access, telepsychiatry, inpatient beds, and outpatient services, and will support individualized treatment plans including mental health, addiction services, and therapy.
