Project Kuiper is Amazon’s low Earth orbit satellite broadband network. Its mission is to deliver fast, reliable internet to customers and communities around the world, and we’ve designed the system with the capacity, flexibility, and performance to serve a wide range of customers, from individual households to schools, hospitals, businesses, government agencies, and other organizations operating in locations without reliable connectivity.

Key job responsibilities

  • Continuously strive for operational excellence by seeking to automate away manual processes
  • Work closely with our network, systems & software engineering teams to ensure fast, smooth roll-out of new designs and products
  • Design and develop tools to measure and improve the performance and availability of the Kuiper Ground Infrastructure
  • Drive operational excellence projects to improve network performance and reliability
  • Provide critical operations support and incident response for the service, while taking part in an on-call rotation
  • Network SME for the operations of the Kuiper\'s ground gateway\'s and backbone connectivity

A day in the life

Mentoring, Design, Operational Excellence:

Work with business partners, leadership and other engineers, influence and lead the design of networks and systems. We need your ideas and your ability to take initiative, innovate, and produce results as we continuously improve the customer experience.

Day to day work will vary between automation or other scripting work, operational excellence initiatives, design meetings, coordination with engineering teams and external partners, and an on-call rotation.

About the team

The team is comprised of a leader, Systems and Network Development Engineers in North America, Europe and Australia. The overall mission is to ensure Kuiper Ground Infrastructure is always available to serve customers.

Export controls

This position may require access to information, technology, or hardware that is subject to export control laws and regulations, including EAR and ITAR. Employment in this position is contingent upon obtaining any required export licenses or other approvals from the U.S. government. The successful candidate must be eligible to obtain any necessary export licenses or approvals based on their nationality, citizenship, and other factors considered by the regulations.

Basic Qualifications

  • 5+ years of major internet routing protocols experience
  • 3+ years of working in a Linux/Unix environment experience
  • 3+ years of automation scripting using Python, Bash, Shell and/or Perl experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with AWS services
  • Curious to learn in depth about both technology and our customers
  • A curious self-starter with a proven track record of diving into unknown territory, learning new concepts, and pushing your comfort zone.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $143,200/year in our lowest geographic market up to $247,600/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
