Senior FPGA Development Engineer, Bespoke Solutions

Job ID: 3105355 | Amazon Development Center U.S., Inc.

Application deadline: Applications will be accepted on an ongoing basis.

Are you interested in developing high speed digital logic using the most advanced technology? Amazon Web Services (AWS) is expanding its connectivity and is looking for help. This position requires a U.S. citizen with an active Secret security clearance, who will subsequently obtain a TS/SCI clearance.

Key job responsibilities

  • Develop custom RTL and integrate with third‑party libraries to build end‑to‑end 100 Gb/s+ solutions.
  • Collaborate with design and system engineers to perform trade‑offs and architect new solutions for customers.
  • Own the interface between software and hardware by developing drivers and providing software examples.
  • Lead design meetings to plan development and review peer designs.
  • Identify new opportunities and technologies to improve the customer experience and add features.

A day in the life

You will work on a cross‑functional team of hardware and software developers, writing programmable logic and embedded software to interact with custom hardware. You will debug RTL in simulation, synthesize and implement ensuring it meets timing and performance requirements, deploy RTL onto hardware targets, and debug issues that arise in RTL, hardware or software. You will provide subject‑matter expertise in architectural discussions and strategic planning meetings.

We develop AWS‑owned hardware solutions to scale globally, minimize cost, and maximize value for our customers. We are a growing team of hardware, software and FPGA engineers with a dedicated product development lab in Arlington, VA.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • Knowledge of UVM and MATLAB.
  • Experience in communication theory, OFDM, MIMO, digital/wireless communication systems or RF engineering.
  • Experience with current and upcoming RF standards (cellular 4G/5G, WiMAX, 802.11ad, microwave backhaul, DVB-S2/DVB-C, or related broadband wireless standards).
  • Current, active U.S. Government Security Clearance of Secret or above.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • Experience in RTL coding and debugging, as well as performance, power, area analysis and trade‑offs.
  • Experience with modern ASIC/FPGA design and verification tools.
  • Experience with SOC bring‑up and post‑silicon validation.
