About the role
AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. In this role the Data Center Project Engineer works with partner teams—Operations, Networking, Controls, Security, Commissioning—to construct Amazon data centers that are energy efficient and cost effective while supporting customer needs.
Responsibilities
- Establish communication and coordination across a data center region’s general contractors, stakeholders, and internal teams (e.g., region‑wide changes, COVID‑19 testing procedures, access documents).
- Develop and maintain a tracking system for design changes, RFIs, and change orders; provide dashboards for regional leadership review.
- Review MOPs (Method of Procedure) for detail, necessity, and risk.
- Onboard new vendors, including badging and orientation.
- Update project management software with milestone dates, correspondence, and documents.
- Monitor delivery of owner‑furnished material to site.
- Compile and store construction data from vendors.
- Manage checklists for substantial completion, safety, and quality.
- Manage owners‑side RFI, submittal, and change‑management processes related to data center builds.
- Help ensure monthly billing and pay applications are correct.
- Assist in implementing new processes as required and work closely with general contractors, superintendents, and project engineers to keep projects on schedule.
Key goals
Reduce cost, shorten delivery duration, and minimize defects—including bringing the job in at or below budget, on schedule, and achieving zero defects at power‑facility hand‑off.
Basic Qualifications
- 3+ years of vendor management experience.
- 4+ years of relevant work in a data center or other critical environment.
- 5+ years of data center engineering or operations experience.
- 5+ years of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel) experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
- Experience with vendor management and data center operations.
Preferred Qualifications
- 3+ years of construction or project management experience.
- Electrical or mechanical Journeyman license.
- Operating engineering license such as DC II, DC III, or equivalent.

Compensation
Compensation ranges from $83,100/year in the lowest geographic market to $185,000/year in the highest. Equity, sign‑on payments, and other benefits may be included as part of a total compensation package.
