Descrizione del lavoro

The Material Engineer is responsible for material selection, corrosion control, welding and coating specifications, QA/QC oversight, and technical assurance for subsea pipelines and associated subsea structures in a shallow-water development. The role ensures compliance with industry standards, project requirements, and long-term asset integrity needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop material selection reports for linepipe, fittings, PLET/PLEM structures, CRA materials, and flanges.
  • Define corrosion allowances and pressure/temperature class requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with DNV-ST-F101, API 5L, ISO 13628, and API 17D standards.

Corrosion Engineering & Protection Systems

  • Define internal and external corrosion protection strategies.
  • Review cathodic protection (CP) design calculations, anode systems, and coating specifications.
  • Evaluate inhibitor, MEG, and chemical injection requirements and conduct corrosion risk assessments.
  • Review WPS, PQR, and welder qualification records.
  • Support weld overlay, clad systems, and heat treatment requirements.
  • Review NDT requirements and conduct weldability assessments.

Coating & Field Joint Protection

  • Define external coating systems and field joint coating (FJC) requirements.
  • Review coating procedures, qualification testing, and mechanical protection systems (CWC, anti-buckle sleeves).

Pipeline Integrity & Technical Assurance

  • Review fracture toughness, sour service suitability, fatigue performance, and material traceability.
  • Participate in integrity reviews, audits, and resolution of NCRs.
  • Support failure investigations and root‑cause analyses.

Interface Management

  • Interface with pipeline, structures, umbilical/controls, fabrication, and installation teams.
  • Ensure alignment of material specifications across all engineering disciplines.
  • Review linepipe mills, CRA vendors, bend manufacturers, and coating plants.
  • Participate in FAT and mill testing activities (DWTT, Charpy, CTOD) and coating trials.
  • Monitor compliance with ITPs, QCPs, and QA documentation.

Technical Competence Requirements

  • Strong knowledge of metallurgy (carbon steel, alloy steel, duplex/super duplex).
  • Expertise in internal/external corrosion and CP design.
  • Knowledge of offshore coating and insulation systems (FBE, 3LPE, PP).
  • Experience with welding metallurgy, HAZ control, and NDT techniques.
  • Familiarity with DNV-ST-F101, API 5L, ISO 15156/NACE MR0175, and API 17D standards.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Materials, Metallurgy, Mechanical, or Corrosion Engineering.
  • Minimum 12 years’ experience in subsea/offshore materials engineering.
  • Experience with linepipe mills, coating yards, and offshore field joint coating (FJC).
  • Strong technical communication skills and QA/QC background.
