Core Mission: As a core member of our European business development team, you will lead energy storage project development (from greenfield to Ready to Build Stage) and drive investment / financing activities in Europe. Leverage your expertise in market dynamics, policies, grid compliance, and financial modeling to identify opportunities, mitigate risks, and ensure ROI.
Responsibilities
- Monitor and analyze electricity market structures, trading, pricing mechanisms, ancillary service demands, grid reserve services, and price trends;
- Understand the impact of regulatory requirements and various applications (trading, balancing mechanism, ancillary services, and grid reserve services) on each project business case;
- Identify, screen, and evaluate energy storage project opportunities (greenfield, brownfield, co-location) in pre-RTB or RTB stages;
- Develop compelling propositions and competitive bids;
- Support day-to-day business case development activities of projects until deal closure;
- Build and maintain relationships with government agencies, grid operators, landowners, and consultants. Lead due diligence processes;
- Develop, build, review, and optimize financial models (LCOE, NPV, IRR) for projects, including sensitivity analysis and risk assessment with support from supply chain, finance, and technical teams;
- Establish investment / financing partnerships with banks, funds, infrastructure investors, energy firms, and power traders;
- Support corporate finance team in raising debt for a portfolio of projects;
- Prepare high-quality internal Invest Committee papers;
- Coordinate cross-functional collaboration between project teams and internal departments;
- Develop sales and marketing materials, and represent the company at conferences;
- Develop strategic partnerships to support scaling of the business.
Qualifications / Requirements
- Minimum 8 years in commercial / business development in the energy sector (B2B), preferably in energy storage or renewable sectors;
- Strong commercial skills with legal contracts and project financing experience;
- Strong organizational skills, team-oriented, with good attention to detail;
- Experience in energy storage and renewable sectors;
- Knowledge of the UK, Europe, Australia, and Asia-Pacific energy landscapes;
- Desire to work in a fast-moving, high-pressure, entrepreneurial environment.
Skills
- Mastery of financial modeling and investment analysis (ability to build complex project models);
- Proven track record in energy storage project development, M&A, or asset rotation;
- Advanced Excel skills;
- Python skills are an advantage;
Communication
Exceptional communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills, capable of presenting financial models and sales pitches.
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, or finance-related fields.
Language
Fluent in English (written / spoken); additional European languages are a plus.
Mobility
Ability to travel frequently between China, UK, and Europe.
