Our Client, a medium-sized global company specializing in innovative solutions for the horticulture sector, with a strong international presence and a growing footprint in Europe is seeking a proactive, entrepreneurial Subsidiary Manager to lead their small Italian operation. This hands-on role requires a strong understanding of the horticulture sector, commercial insight, and the ability to manage both strategic and operational aspects of a small business unit. The Italian subsidiary, with annual revenue of approximately €2 million, plays a key role in supporting local growers, distributors, and industry partners.

Responsibilities:

  • Subsidiary Leadership: Oversee all aspects of the Italian operation, including sales coordination, production, customer service, administration and compliance.
  • Market Development: Identify growth opportunities in the Italian horticulture market, particularly with greenhouse producers, nurseries, distributors, and cooperatives.
  • Customer Relationship Management: Maintain strong relationships with key customers and partners, ensuring high satisfaction and long-term loyalty.
  • Operational Oversight: Manage day-to-day activities with a small team (typically 5-6 people), including office administration, inventory coordination, production and sales.
  • Sales Support & Execution: Support sales efforts through the salesman or through direct engagement with customers and partners, and collaboration with the global sales and marketing teams.
  • Budget & Financial Control: responsibility for budget control and profitability.
  • Compliance: Ensure compliance with Italian regulations as well as internal corporate policies.
  • Reporting & Coordination: Maintain clear and regular communication with the headquarters, providing insights into local performance and market dynamics.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Horticulture, Sales, Agricultural Economics, Business, or a related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in agricultural or horticultural sectors, with familiarity with the Italian market.
  • Proven ability to manage small teams and drive operational and commercial success.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with fluency in Italian and proficiency in English.
  • Understanding of horticultural production systems, value chains, and seasonality.
  • Hands-on, self-driven, and able to make independent decisions while coordinating with international leadership.
  • Experience in a multinational or matrixed company is a plus.
  • Solid financial acumen and comfort with budgeting and reporting tools.
