Turbopump Development Engineer [High-Thrust Rocket Engine]
Join us as Turbopump Development Engineer for our High‑Thrust Rocket Engine program at The Exploration Company.
Here at The Exploration Company we are developing, producing, and operating Nyx, a modular and reusable space orbital vehicle that can eventually be refuelled in orbit and that can carry cargo – and potentially humans in the longer run. The heart of a spacecraft lies in its engine, and that’s why we are dedicated to developing our own cutting‑edge Propulsion Systems that ensure the highest level efficiency and reliability.
We are seeking a talented Turbopump Development Engineer to join our Future Project division. As a key member of our engineering team, you will be responsible for designing, analyzing, and optimizing turbopump components for rocket engines, with a focus on liquid oxygen pumps.
Key Responsibilities
- Making and documenting well‑reasoned consequential decisions in turbomachinery design
- Carrying out the mechanical design of cryogenic pump components and assemblies based on specifications and best practices
- Supervision of external subcontractors and communication with suppliers
- Design of test apparatus, definition of test objectives and analysis of test results
- Analytical modeling of geometric, mechanical or fluidic problems and implementing solutions in programs
What We Would Love To See From You
- Master’s degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or a related technical discipline; alternatively a bachelor’s degree with substantial relevant experience
- Strong fundamentals in fluid mechanics, thermodynamics and mechanical design
- Good understanding of industry standard and emerging manufacturing methods and their constraints
- Proficient in the use of 3D CAD software and drafting
- Experience writing software/scripts in languages such as Python
- Ability to infer system‑level implications of component design choices
- Strong ability to work in close collaboration with others
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Strong analysis and problem‑solving skillsStrong research skills and ability to infer useful information from partial or contradictory sources
- Drive towards excellence coupled with ability to work within time constraints
- Proficiency in organization and prioritization of tasks
- Fluency in English
Desirable
- Some understanding of machine dynamics such as rotordynamics
- Strong understanding of liquid‑propellant rocket engines as a systemProven experience working with any kind of fast rotating machinery
- Hands‑on experience developing hardware from concept to working prototypes
