Hydraulic Senior Engineer

Join RINA's Environmental and Engineering Geoscience Division in Genoa or Milan (Italy) as a Hydraulic Senior Engineer.

Mission

As a Hydraulic Senior Engineer you will take a pivotal role in the development and design of hydraulic systems tailored for infrastructure projects. You will ensure that all designs meet rigorous industry standards and regulatory obligations while driving innovative solutions that enhance system efficiency and sustainability.

Key Accountabilities

  • Hydraulic System Design: develop and design hydraulic systems for infrastructure projects, ensuring adherence to industry standards and regulations.
  • Analysis and Modeling: conduct hydraulic analyses and modeling to assess system performance under various conditions; identify and mitigate potential issues related to water flow, pressure, and drainage.
  • Project Collaboration: work closely with project teams, integrating hydraulic considerations into overall project designs; collaborate with civil engineers, architects, and environmental specialists.
  • Site Inspections: conduct site inspections to assess existing hydraulic systems, identify areas for improvement, and ensure compliance with design specifications.
  • Documentation: prepare detailed engineering reports, drawings, and documentation related to hydraulic design for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Regulatory Compliance: stay informed about industry regulations and standards related to hydraulic engineering; ensure designs align with applicable codes and guidelines.
  • Client Interaction: collaborate with clients to understand project requirements, address concerns, and provide technical expertise; communicate complex hydraulic concepts clearly and effectively.
  • Innovation: explore and recommend innovative solutions and technologies to enhance hydraulic system performance and sustainability.
  • Technical Expertise: make calculations using HEC‑RAS software for various elements within engineering projects; develop geotechnical engineering projects from preliminary phases to detailed designs.
  • Project Support: provide direct day‑to‑day support and oversight of project elements; assist engineers or engineering teams with data gathering, permit applications, and other duties.
  • Project Management: develop project schedules and deliverable timelines under the supervision of more experienced engineers; prepare project deliverables, including technical reports, performance documentation, and engineering drawings.
  • Quality Assurance: be aware of and understand the Quality Policy; ensure that all assigned activities are executed in accordance with the RINA Quality Management System (QMS); contribute to the improvement of the QMS according to your role.

Education

Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering.

Qualifications

  • Professional Experience: a minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in hydraulic system design and analysis, ideally within the infrastructure sector. Proven expertise using hydraulic modeling software and contributing to project management activities is highly valued.
  • Technical Proficiency:
    • Advanced capabilities in designing hydraulic infrastructure consistent with stringent industry codes and standards.
    • Proficient in hydraulic simulation and modeling software such as HEC‑RAS, EPANET, and SWMM, with a demonstrated ability to interpret and apply model results to real‑world engineering challenges.
    • Strong skills in cross‑disciplinary collaboration, enabling effective integration of hydraulic considerations across civil engineering and environmental domains.
    • Experienced in conducting comprehensive site inspections, condition assessments, and compliance verification for hydraulic systems.
    • Exceptional technical writing and documentation skills to produce clear, detailed engineering reports and drawings.
  • Languages: Fluency in Italian and English is required to effectively engage with multinational teams and clients. Proficiency in French is an advantageous asset that will support broader communication capabilities.
