Flight Simulator Technician

Overview

Always dreamt to become a Pilot when you were a child and enjoy hands-on mechanical, software, hydraulic or electrical areas? We have a special opportunity to learn and support our pilots to become professionals. As CAE’s Simulator Technician Internship, you will join our experience team based in Sesto Calende, Lombardy, Italy, working on advanced level simulators preparing the next generation of pilots and keeping the experienced pilots up to date. The role is highly varied due to the unrivalled range of simulators at our training center.

Note: This is a 24/7 operation with a shift pattern of 4 Days On & 4 Days Off, alternating Day and Night Shifts, on a 365-year calendar in the description; day shifts run 07:00–19:00 and night shifts run 19:00–07:00. Lunch or dinner on duty is provided in the internal canteen.

Our team offers opportunities across all levels within the function, with a progression path available beyond this position. The Internship Simulator Technician will learn how our Expert Technicians operate and maintain the simulators.

Responsibilities

• Prepare the Simulation Training Equipment for daily operation for each training device, based on the published monthly schedules.
• Load appropriate exercise scenarios and other tasks required to prepare for specific training sessions, and complete Journey Logs at the start and finish of scheduled sessions.
• Receive training and perform simple assignments in office, on site, field, and laboratory. Some projects may be experimental or design oriented.
• Resolve a variety of complex simulator and/or aircraft systems problems.
• Learn and perform tasks under supervision to gain hands-on experience.

During the internship, you will also learn to perform many tasks yourself, starting from an unexperienced level and progressing to more advanced duties.

• Learn and perform preventive maintenance tasks on the simulators and associated systems.
• Assist in diagnosing and correcting problems on the simulators and related systems.
• Use the maintenance management system to record and track activities.
• Assist in completing training activities and perform pre-flight and post-flight operations on designated simulators.
• Perform basic visual alignments and run automated qualification tests (QTG).
• Assist with hardware refurbishments and modifications; comply with CAE quality management system.
• Provide customer service support and address customer needs in a timely manner.
• Maintain simulator cleanliness and perform logistics duties including parts handling, repairs, testing and validation. Perform administrative tasks as required.
• Support the technical services group as needed.

Qualifications

• College Diploma preferably in Electronics, Mechatronics, Aeronautics or Mechanics (Diploma is mandatory; hands-on technical experience is highly desirable).
• Willingness to work flexible shifts and adapt to changing schedules.
• Ability to interpret system prints and schematics; basic knowledge of test equipment (oscilloscope, multimeter, signal generator, logic analyzer, etc.).
• Basic knowledge of analog and digital theory; computer literacy (PCs or system architecture).
• Proficiency in soldering and circuit board repairs; basic knowledge of Microsoft Office tools.
• Fluent in English and/or Italian.

Position Type

Internship (6 to 12 months fixed term). Initial placement is as an Internship or Apprenticeship with the potential for permanent employment; our programs aim to hire and retain young talents who want to grow with us in aviation.

L’attività si svolge su turni 24/7 con lo schema: 4 giorni lavorativi + 4 giorni di riposo + 4 notti + 4 giorni di riposo, ripetuto durante tutto l’anno. Il turno diurno è 07:00–19:00; il turno notturno è 19:00–07:00. Il pranzo o la cena durante il turno sono offerti dall’azienda.
