Construction Manager, SBN Data Center Construction

AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. In other words, we keep the cloud running. We support all AWS data centers, including the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure continuous customer access to the innovation they rely on.

You’ll join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles. You’ll collaborate across AWS to deliver the highest standards for safety, security, and capacity while keeping costs low, in an inclusive culture that welcomes bold ideas.

As our Data Center Construction Manager (CM), you will be part of a creative team building energy‑efficient, cost‑effective Amazon Data Centers. You will own project scope, quality, schedule, and budget for construction of new builds or general capital projects, and oversee construction activities in partnership with Operations, Networking, Controls, Security, and Commissioning teams.

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Serve as Amazon’s construction representative on multiple data‑center sites from start through hand‑off to operations.
  • Interface directly with construction general contractors during bidding, award, execution, punch‑list, and closeout phases.
  • Create construction project scope and request‑for‑proposals.
  • Negotiate with contractors, evaluate bids and proposals, and manage cost, schedule, and quality.
  • Perform construction project management activities, including document, submittal, RFI, change order, invoice, quality, scope, and schedule management.
  • Drive construction teams to troubleshoot and conduct root‑cause failure analysis on equipment failures.
  • Support commissioning, integrated system testing, and oversight.
  • Support operations of installed facilities, reviewing procedures, best practices, and maintenance initiatives.
  • Assist with capital request creation.
  • Analyze and report construction progress and financials.
  • Record and report key construction metrics to team members and management.
  • Contribute to initiatives that improve construction efficiency and data center resiliency.
  • Provide constructability reviews for electrical and mechanical designs for new or optimized data centers.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or equivalent engineering science plus 5+ years of relevant construction experience, OR 9+ years of relevant construction experience in lieu of a degree.
  • 4+ years of experience in construction management of large, complex projects involving large‑scale mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) plants.
  • 4+ years of general contractor and vendor management experience (RFQ, bidding, change orders, quality control, RFI and submittal tracking) associated with construction and project execution.

Preferred Qualifications

  • MS in Construction Management or Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, Structural).
  • 7+ years of experience in construction management of large‑scale projects.
  • 7+ years of project management and vendor management experience.
  • 3+ years of experience in data‑center system‑level architecture and electrical engineering principles.
  • 3+ years of experience in data‑center system‑level architecture and mechanical engineering principles.
  • Experience designing data centers or critical MEP infrastructure.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several U.S. geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from \$98,700 per year in the lowest geographic market up to \$210,800 per year in the highest geographic market. Pay is based on market location and may vary based on job‑related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company; equity, sign‑on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, along with a full range of medical, financial, and other benefits.
