Data Governance Engineer

You will be responsible for scaling, automation, and optimizing HBX data governance policies and processes across all the data lifecycle.

This role is a key contributor to delivering and successfully executing the Data Governance Roadmap. You will be actively involved in creating the company's data quality foundations by developing and delivering technical solutions related to:

• Data Governance & Management policies as code
• Automatic Data Observability and Quality metrics implementation
• Effective Metadata Management & Data Catalogue
• Data Policies and Procedures automation
• Data Security processes and controls automation

Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Head of Data Governance Office, this role will be responsible for:

• Designing and implementing automatic Data Governance policies and procedures, detecting bad practices, and preventing data quality issues across different layers of the data stack and phases of the data lifecycle.
• Designing and implementing automatic Data Management policies, procedures, and controls (policy as code) to prevent data misuse.
• Designing and implementing automatic Data Quality controls, validation, metrics, and alerts.
• Collaborating with Data Governance Enterprise Architect to design the optimal data architecture and infrastructure for governed, high-quality data extraction, transformation, and loading using SQL, Python, and AWS big data technologies.
• Building or deploying Data Governance tools to support Data Analysts and Data Scientists in developing and optimizing products.

Skills:

Education in Computer & Information Science, Computer Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field. Master’s degree in BI & Data Analytics or Big Data is preferred.

Experience:

• Advanced Python skills and experience with databases and enterprise applications.
• Strong SQL skills and experience with relational databases.
• Knowledge of Data Security management including encryption, masking, GDPR, PCI, secrets management, SSO, MFA.
• Experience in root cause analysis and data system automation.

Technical Skills:

• Management of cloud data warehouse platforms like Snowflake.
• Proficiency in SQL, Python, REST API.
• Experience with ETL tools like Airflow, Snowpipe, or similar.
• Knowledge of data transformation tools such as dbt.
• Experience with data governance platforms like Collibra, Informatica, etc.
• Familiarity with visualization tools like Tableau and version control systems like Git.

Documentation: Proficiency with Atlassian Confluence or similar tools.

Soft Skills:

• Project management skills with Agile, Scrum, Kanban methodologies.
• End-to-end process and vision orientation.
• Strategic thinking and data literacy skills.

Day-to-day activities:

• Governance and management of HBX Data Platform Stack regarding security, user management, roles, permissions, best practices, and policy implementation.
• Design and implement automated data governance policies and controls to prevent bad data practices.
• Implement detective controls and alerts across the organization.
• Ensure data connectivity and governance via API integrations.
• Develop data security policies to ensure compliance with regulations like GDPR and internal confidentiality standards.
• Support full data lifecycle management including upgrades, decommissioning, and archiving in line with data retention policies.
