This role is based in Australia.

About the Role

  • Recruitment supported by the School of Chemistry, UNSW Sydney.
  • Research Associate in Analytical Chemistry focusing on polymer‑coated magnetic nanoparticles for diagnostic and theranostic applications.
  • Salary: $113 K – $121 K plus 17 % superannuation and annual leave loading.
  • Fixed term – 12 months.
  • Full‑time, 35 hours per week.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Design and implement the analytical chemistry of polymer‑coated nanoparticles for diagnostics and therapy.
  • Characterise and synthesize polymer‑coated magnetic nanoparticles, including chromatography separation of bioproducts and reaction products.
  • Conduct research into the surface analysis, modification, TEM and magnetic measurements of magnetic nanoparticles.
  • Write and maintain laboratory notebooks detailing all experiments.
  • Provide timely analysis of experimental results.
  • Prepare results for peer‑reviewed publications.
  • Contribute to scientific papers, reports and progress updates for researchers and industry partners.
  • Prepare research proposal submissions and seek industry collaboration.
  • Assist in coordinating research activities and meeting project milestones.
  • Present experimental results at national and international conferences.
  • Assist in training PhD and honours students.
  • Demonstrate UNSW values in action, including the Code of Conduct.
  • Adhere to health and safety policies and procedures.

About the Successful Applicant

  • PhD in analytical chemistry, chemical synthesis of polymers, or nanoparticles.
  • Ability to characterise polymers, nanoparticles, and bioproducts.
  • Experience in material synthesis and research environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct independent, high‑quality academic research.
  • Commitment to staying current with disciplinary knowledge and developments.
  • Track record of publications and conference presentations.
  • Strong teamwork, collaboration across disciplines, and effective relationship building.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to communicate with diverse stakeholders and students.
  • Commitment to UNSW aims, objectives, values, and relevant policies.
  • Knowledge of health and safety responsibilities.
