Role Overview

We are now looking for a Senior Service Engineer (m/f/d) Navigation to join our Field Service NAV Team in Genova or Monfalcone, Italy.

As part of NACOS Marine APSS, serving the Italian cruise market, you will take a lead technical role in commissioning, servicing, and handing over complex navigation systems on board cruise and merchant vessels. You will act as a trusted technical expert on-site, representing NACOS Marine toward customers, shipyards, and classification societies.

This role requires a high level of technical competence, independence, and customer-facing professionalism. You will execute and lead service activities according to defined work plans while actively contributing to quality improvement, customer satisfaction, and knowledge sharing within the service organization. The position reports directly to the Field Service Team Leader.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead commissioning, maintenance, and troubleshooting of advanced marine navigation and control systems
  • Perform system checks, adjustments, configuration, and fine-tuning of complex navigation installations
  • Execute and oversee pre-commissioning, commissioning, and warranty activities in shipyards and onboard vessels
  • Act as technical lead during sea trials and, when required, serve as warranty engineer
  • Present and hand over navigation systems to shipowners, shipyards, and classification societies
  • Independently execute complex repairs, upgrades, and system overhauls
  • Ensure all work complies with NACOS Quality, Health, Safety, and Environmental standards and customer-specific procedures
  • Maintain clear, professional communication with customers and project stakeholders throughout service execution
  • Prepare accurate service, commissioning, and warranty documentation and reports
  • Identify improvement opportunities, support continuous improvement initiatives, and promote NACOS solutions to customers
  • Act as a mentor and technical reference for less experienced service engineers when required

Key Requirements

  • Degree or diploma in Electronics, Automation, Navigation, Mechatronics, or equivalent technical experience
  • Several years of professional experience in marine service and commissioning, preferably on cruise or merchant vessels
  • Strong expertise in marine navigation systems; experience with NACOS Platinum, gyro, and steering systems is highly preferred
  • Excellent troubleshooting capabilities across hardware, software, and system interfaces
  • Ability to read, interpret, and work independently from electrical drawings and technical documentation
  • Structured, solution-oriented, and hands‑on working style with strong ownership mindset
  • Excellent interpersonal, intercultural, and customer communication skills
  • Fluency in English (written and spoken); Italian proficiency is an advantage
  • Willingness to travel frequently within Europe and occasionally worldwide
