Hardware Engineer – Cinisello Balsamo, Italy

Company: Nidec Conversion is a $600M Business Unit of Nidec Corporation, a global company headquartered in Milan with operations in more than 10 countries. It specializes in designing, engineering, commissioning, and servicing complex electrical systems for energy efficiency, renewable and traditional markets, industrial automation, and e‑mobility.

Responsibilities

  • Design various types of electronic boards (power supply, analog and digital FPGA interfaces, power semiconductor drive circuits) for power converters, based on product specifications and project plans.
  • Develop prototypes of electronic boards, including all related documentation, construction and testing, validation protocols, and necessary checks for production release.
  • Prepare full project documentation: calculations, sizing, circuit simulations, project reports, functional schematics, test specifications, test reports, and operation and maintenance manuals.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering.
  • Strong knowledge of electronic components, especially digital systems, and ability to read and interpret analog/digital circuit schematics.
  • Proficiency in reading datasheets, performing electrical and electronic measurements.
  • Basic knowledge of power electronics and PCB issues such as signal integrity, galvanic isolation, testability, and EMC.
  • Solid skills in debugging, validation, and functional testing using digital oscilloscopes, function generators, logic analyzers, and other complex measuring devices.
  • Good understanding of component soldering (THT and SMT) and IPC standards for printed circuit boards.
  • Experience with at least one schematic creation tool: Orcad, Zuken, or Altium Designer.
  • Knowledge of power electronics, electric machines, and core technologies (power semiconductors, cooling technologies, electronic boards).
  • Experience with at least one simulation tool: PSpice or LTspice; Psim, Plecs, or equivalents; computing tools (Mathcad or equivalents) and mechanical drawing tools (AutoCAD, Inventor or equivalents).
  • Basic knowledge of thermal simulation environments (Flotherm) and additional merit for EMC testing experience.
  • Willingness to undertake short national and international trips.
