DUTY STATION : Rome, Italy, with frequent missions to the field

DURATION : 11 months

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE OF THE ASSIGNMENT :

WFP is partnering with the Mastercard Foundation (MCF) for a five-year, 130 million USD partnership titled 'Strengthening food systems to promote increased value chain employment opportunities for youth' (Youth in Work). This initiative aims to enhance local food systems, making them more efficient, sustainable, and inclusive for youth, especially young women, in eight countries across East Africa, Southern Africa, and West Africa.

The program adopts an integrated value chain approach, focusing on improving employment opportunities, increasing income for smallholder farmers, reducing post-harvest losses, and enhancing inclusiveness and efficiency within agricultural value chains.

The partnership supports access to finance and innovative digital solutions to strengthen actors in these value chains.

A Programme Coordination Team (PCT) was established to support delivery, facilitate integration within country strategies, build synergies, and maintain continuous dialogue with the Foundation's PanAfrican team. The program emphasizes evidence-based learning through monitoring, documentation, and sharing of results and best practices.

Purpose of the consultancy :

The consultant will be part of the HQ/RB Programme Coordination Team, providing technical support in areas such as market access, innovative financing, youth & women employment in agriculture, reporting, knowledge management, and communications related to the Youth in Work Programme.
