Educational Aid/Technician (Part-Time)

Overview

Educational Aid/Technician (Part-Time) role at U.S. Navy Fleet and Family Readiness (FFR).

Summary: Educational Aids/Technicians (CYP Assistants) work directly with children and youth, keeping them actively engaged, well-cared for, and safe while participating in the CYP. The CYP Assistant's day includes helping children develop social skills such as making friends and conflict resolution; making healthy choices whether it be choosing nutritious snacks or appropriate recreational activities; building self-help and school readiness skills; and exploring the environment around them.

Responsibilities

• Curriculum: Develops schedules and activity plans; ensures program plans and activities meet observed needs of individual children and youth; implements activities and special events that address physical, social, emotional, and cognitive development; prepares options for children with special requirements; leads and facilitates planned and spontaneous activities; models developmentally appropriate practice; promotes safety, fitness, health, and nutrition practices; assists with snacks or meals where applicable.
• Indoor and Outdoor Environment: Helps prepare and maintain indoor/outdoor activity areas; sets up displays and bulletin boards; inventories equipment and coordinates replenishment; secures supplies, equipment, and facilities.
• Interactions and Relationships: Establishes an engaging program environment and promotes positive interactions among participants and with adults; interacts with children and youth using approved guidance techniques.
• Supervision of Children and Youth: Provides care, supervision, and accountability for program participants in compliance with DoD, DoD component, and local installation policies; maintains control of whereabouts and safety; supervises daily activities and field trips; ensures authorized departures per parental instructions; observes for illness, abuse, or neglect and reports as required; mandatory reporter to Family Advocacy and Child Protective Services as prescribed by local policy.
• Parent and Employee Communication: Interacts professionally with employees, parents, and local installation command personnel; provides daily feedback to parents about their child/youth or program activities; participates in conferences.
• Assessment: Observes development and documents progression or concerns; participates in program evaluation using designated instruments and tools.
• Compliance: Assists in achieving and maintaining DoD certification and national accreditation; ensures compliance with applicable laws, policies, and regulations for DoD CY programs; notifies supervisor of health, fire, and safety concerns.
• Additional Responsibilities: Collects, maintains, and reports program participation data; performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements and Qualifications

Conditions of employment

• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• Complete required training certificates and maintain certifications or credentials required by Federal, State, and/or national accreditation institutions used as part of DoD\'s Child and Youth Programs.
• Pass all applicable record and background checks.
• Undergo pre-employment and random drug testing. A positive drug test, or failure to submit for testing, may result in withdrawal of a tentative offer or removal from the position.
• Pass a pre-employment physical examination, provide evidence of immunization, be free of communicable diseases, and obtain appropriate immunizations.
• Ability to sustain walking, standing, bending, stooping, and lifting up to 40 pounds.
• Male candidates born after December 31, 1959 and at least 18 years of age must certify registration with the Selective Service System (proof of registration required).
• Eligible candidates must possess: No-Fee Passport, Sponsor\'s Orders or Command-sponsorship authorization, and sojourner\'s permit/application letter.

Education

• Must provide a copy of your high school diploma, GED, or college transcripts showing degree awarded/conferred when you apply.

Qualifications

Experience levels

• Entry Level (CY-1702-01): Ability to communicate effectively in English, follow verbal and written instructions, complete Navy training requirements within the specified timeframe, promote and foster effective working relationships with children, youth, and coworkers, and work cooperatively as a team.
• Intermediate Level (CY-1702-01): Six months of experience with children or youth; knowledge of development principles; ability to interpret curriculum; follow written instructions; plan and organize; work cooperatively; foster relationships with children, youth, and coworkers.
• Target Level (CY-1702-02): One year of experience; knowledge of development principles to meet needs; ability to implement developmentally appropriate practices; promote relationships; work cooperatively; verbal communication skills to explain CYP processes.

Education requirements by level

• Entry Level: 18+ with high school diploma or equivalent. Note: Prior experience preferred.
• Intermediate Level: 18+ with high school diploma or equivalent; six months of relevant experience; completion of Navy Entry Level training or equivalent accepted.
• Target Level: 18+ with high school diploma or equivalent; one year of relevant experience; completion of DoD training courses or a valid credential (CDA/MSA) or a 2-year degree in related field.

Additional notes: If your degree has not been awarded and/or you have certificates of completion for DoD training courses and/or a valid credential, you must also provide HS diploma or equivalent.
