As part of the AWS Applied AI Solutions organization, we're advancing the frontier of computer vision and deep learning. Our vision is to develop sophisticated AI systems that can understand, interpret, and reason about visual information at human-like levels, enabling breakthrough applications across multiple industries.

The Team

Our research team is tackling fundamental challenges in computer vision and deep learning. We're investigating novel approaches to how AI systems understand spatial and temporal relationships, reason about object interactions, and maintain contextual awareness across time.

The Role

Everyone on the team needs to be entrepreneurial, wear many hats and work in a highly collaborative environment that’s more startup than big company. We’ll need to tackle problems that span a variety of domains: computer vision, image recognition, machine learning, real-time and distributed systems.

Key job responsibilities

• Develop a novel framework to solve person tracking problem in the physical world
• Advance the theory and practice of multi-object tracking, re-identification, pose estimation, and person activity understanding
• Create innovative techniques for efficient visual processing that can scale to real-world applications
• Investigate approaches to reduce the computational and data requirements of visual AI systems

A day in the life

As an Applied Scientist, you'll conduct fundamental research in visual reasoning while maintaining a clear path to practical applications. You'll investigate novel architectural approaches, develop new theoretical frameworks, and validate ideas through rigorous experimentation. You'll collaborate with other scientists and engineers to transform research insights into scalable solutions, publish your findings in top-tier conferences, and help shape the future direction of visual AI technology.

Basic Qualifications

• PhD in Computer Science, Machine Learning, or related field (or MS with equivalent research experience)
• Track record of publications at top-tier conferences (CVPR, ICCV, ECCV, NeurIPS, ICLR), specifically focusing on multi-object tracking, re-identification, human activity understanding, or multi-modal LLMs
• Strong background in computer vision, deep learning, and multi-modal foundation models
• Experience with PyTorch or other deep learning frameworks
• Demonstrated ability to transform research ideas into practical implementations

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with large-scale model training and optimization
• Contributions to open-source AI projects or research frameworks
• Experience mentoring junior researchers and collaborating with engineering teams
• Strong track record of turning research breakthroughs into practical applications

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $136,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $223,400/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
