Job Description

Core Mission

As a core member of our European business development team, you will lead energy storage project development (from greenfield to Ready to Build Stage) and drive investment / financing activities in Europe. Leverage your expertise in market dynamics, policies, grid compliance, and financial modeling to identify opportunities, mitigate risks, and ensure ROI.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Monitor and analyze electricity market structures, trading, pricing mechanisms, ancillary service demands, grid reserve services and price trends;
  2. Understanding the impact of regulatory requirements and various applications trading, balancing mechanism, ancillary services and grid reserve services on each project business case;
  3. Identify, screen, and evaluate energy storage project opportunities (greenfield, brownfield, co-location) in pre-RTB or RTB stages;
  4. Developing compelling propositions and competitive bids;
  5. Supporting day-to-day business case development activities of projects until the closure of deals;
  6. Build and maintain relationships with government agencies, grid operators, landowners, and consultants. Lead due diligence processes;
  7. Develop, build, review, and optimize financial models (LCOE, NPV, IRR) for projects, including sensitivity analysis and risk assessment with the support of supply chain, finance and technical team;
  8. Establish investment / financing partnerships with banks, funds, infrastructure investors, energy firms, and power traders;
  9. Supporting corporate finance team to raise debt on portfolio of projects;
  10. Supporting preparing high quality internal Invest Committee papers;
  11. Coordinate cross-functional collaboration between project teams and internal departments;
  12. Developing sales and marketing materials, speaking at and attending conferences as appropriate;
  13. Developing strategic partnerships to support scaling of the business.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 8 years in commercial / business development in energy sector
  • B2B preferably in energy storage or renewable sectors
  • Strong commercial skills with legal contracts and project financing
  • Strong organization skills, team and good attention to detail
  • Experience in energy storage and renewable sectors
  • Knowledge of the UK, Europe, Australia and Asia-Pacific energy landscape
  • Desire to work in a fast moving, high pressure and entrepreneurial environment
  • Mastery of financial modeling and investment analysis (ability to build / complex project models)
  • Proven track record in energy storage project development, M&A, or asset rotation
  • Advanced Excel skills
  • Advantage: Python skills
  • Communication: Exceptional communication skills, negotiation and stakeholder management skills, capable of presenting financial models and sales pitches
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, or finance related fields
  • Language: Fluent in English (written / spoken); additional European languages
  • Mobility: Ability to travel frequently between China, UK and Europe
