Junior Software Sustaining Engineer

For our Software department we are seeking a Junior Software Sustaining Engineer to join our rapidly growing, talented team. As a Junior Software Sustaining Engineer you will support the maintenance of the MMI teleoperated microsurgical robot with a focus on SW including all SW tools used during SW installation, servicing, diagnostic and testing and related analysis of log files for issues investigation.

Responsibilities

• Assist in analyzing product hardware and software to understand system behavior and identify potential issues.
• Collaborate with clinical specialists to understand the operating room environment and how it may affect system performance.
• Support the investigation of issues reported from the field, service team, or manufacturing line by analyzing system logs.
• Help the Service Team with data analysis to improve system reliability through predictive and preventive actions.
• Contribute to identifying and resolving software issues reported by users or detected through monitoring tools.
• Work with R&D software developers to test and maintain internal tools used for issue investigation and classification.
• Support the creation and maintenance of documentation for testing, installation, and maintenance procedures of the teleoperated microsurgery robot.
• Monitor software performance and assist in identifying areas for improvement.
• Collaborate with the R&D software team to support internal software used in product release processes.
• Communicate effectively with cross-functional teams including R&D, Service, Quality, Manufacturing, and IT.

Education and Experience

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Automation, or a related field.
• Up to 2 years of relevant experience (internships or academic projects welcome).
• Basic proficiency in Python programming.
• Familiarity with Agile methodologies and software development life cycles (e.g., V-Cycle) is a plus.
• Exposure to issue tracking tools and CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Jira) is beneficial.
• Interest in working with mechatronic or robotic systems involving software, electronics, and mechanical components.
• Knowledge of data analysis tools like MATLAB, or programming languages such as LabVIEW or C#, is a plus.

MMI is dedicated to improving reconstructive options for surgeons and patients and has developed the first teleoperated robotic platform for open microsurgery. It offers the surgeon motion scaling and tremor elimination and aims to facilitate existing procedures as well as enable new ones in the domain of microsurgery, from post-oncological and trauma reconstructions to ophthalmology, organ transplantation and pediatric surgery.
