Offer Description

The GRS (Gravitational Reference System) is the system of free-falling reference test masses, and the Italian (ASI) hardware contribution, for the LISA observatory for gravitational waves, an ESA mission which will launch in 2035. The researcher is expected to perform simulations and analysis in support of the consolidation and experimental verification of the GRS system. In particular, the researcher will simulate molecular impacts that determine the residual pressure around the test mass and the fluctuating forces acting on it, which are a performance-critical aspect for LISA. Additionally, the researcher will have the possibility to contribute to the GRS system development through performance analysis, for the system verification on the ground and for its optimization in orbit.
