Large Cohorts & Biobanks Coordinator

Human Technopole is an interdisciplinary life science research institute created and supported by the Italian Government, focused on developing innovative strategies to improve human health. The institute hosts five Centers: Neurogenomics, Computational Biology, Structural Biology, Genomics, and Health Data Science.

About The Scientific Operations

The Scientific Operations area sits at the interface between Research and Administration, driving the success of Human Technopole in technology excellence, innovation, training, and collaborations.

Role Summary

Reporting to the Chief Scientific Operations Officer, the Large Cohorts & Biobanks Coordinator will coordinate Human Technopole’s activities related to large cohorts and biobanks, addressing administrative, regulatory, and operational challenges of data and sample access while building long‑term strategies to maximise the value of these resources. The role bridges scientific, legal, and operational aspects, ensuring HT can fully leverage well‑structured biobank and cohort data for research, collaborations, and partnerships.

Key Tasks And Responsibilities

  • Manage administrative, legal, and ethical aspects of data and sample access, ensuring compliance with national and EU regulations, GDPR, and internal governance procedures.
  • Develop and maintain streamlined internal processes for data access requests, working closely with Legal, Data Protection, and Ethics Committees.
  • Contribute to long‑term strategic planning for HT’s involvement in national and European biobank and cohort infrastructures, aligning with major EU initiatives.
  • Identify opportunities for HT researchers to leverage external datasets and foster collaborative research across large cohorts and biobanks.
  • Build and maintain relationships with European consortia, national infrastructures, funders, and stakeholders, representing HT in networks and working groups.
  • Anticipate and resolve operational, scientific, or administrative barriers impacting the effective use of biobank and cohort resources.
  • Act as central coordination point for HT researchers, ensuring smooth information flow, monitoring progress, and preparing reports, guidelines, and documentation for leadership and institutional use.

Qualifications

  • Advanced degree (MSc, PhD, or equivalent) in life sciences, public health, bioinformatics or related field.
  • Professional experience (5–8 years) in large data management, biobanks, or cohort coordination.
  • Familiarity with European and national data governance frameworks, GDPR, and research ethics.
  • Experience working with large‑scale biomedical datasets (wet lab and data side).
  • Fluent English – HT is an international institute.

Preferred Requirements

  • Direct experience with European infrastructures (e.g. BBMRI‑ERIC, EGA/ELIXIR, ISO/TC266 Biobanking, EUCAN, EPIC, UK Biobank, INFRAFRONTIER).
  • Experience in grant management or participation in EU‑funded projects (Horizon Europe, IMI/IHI, ERC consortia).
  • Knowledge of Italian.

Organisational And Social Skills

  • Excellent networking and stakeholder management skills.
  • Problem‑solving capacity in complex scientific and administrative contexts.
  • Strong understanding of biobank operations and data governance.
  • Ability to navigate regulatory, legal, and ethical issues in biomedical data.

Salary: up to €63,600
